surprisingly good collection of one shots. The art led me to expect something much lighter than the stories contained and all of them were extremely good.

Suzuki Juliette: A forced to be reckoned with

Suzuki Juliette just epitomizes everything I look for in shoujo manga. The characters are reasonably relatable and not too cliche, and there is a rhyme and a reason for their actions. Granted, these are one-shots, and they're not the best work that Suzuki Juliette's done, but they definitely are representative of her work. They're cute and bittersweet, and they look at love as more than just some contrived deeper-than-physical attraction. I just love how Suzuki's portrayal of love is so ephemeral and nontraditional (compared to the usual shoujo stuff where the protagonist blushes and mutters, "Aishiteru, senpai," under her breath).
Overall, it's definitely worth checking out if you're into interesting shoujo. If you want some straight-up sugary sweetness, this probably isn't for you.

The Modern Fairy Tale Artist

Suzuki Julietta is a formidable shoujo artist, her art is perfect and clean and her stories are original, flow well and are captivating. She really knows how to make you want to turn that page all the way to the end. This collection of stories is almost perfection. The tales are bitter-sweet, to the point where you don't know where the bitterness starts and the sweetness ends. There's quite a spotlight on family love in these which is made interesting through the supernatural themes. The supernatural themes and fairy tale like atmosphere allow the mangaka to contrast everyday life themes in ways that normal shoujo would not be able to do. Julietta is nothing less of a modern fairy tale author, and this work truly highlights that.
