Description
Yona Ryouma, a normal high school boy, saves a man from another world at the cost of his own life when a mysterious earthquake occurs. The man, Emillio, uses a potion which apparently saves Ryouma's life. However, he is also changed into a girl in the process.

Emillio is actually the prince of this alternate world and he declares Ryouma as his wife, presumably on the context of saving his life. But what about Ryouma's life as a high school boy in his own world? And will he come to accept being the prince's wife?

After reading a fair amount of genderbenders, you start to get the feel for the different patterns. This is a standard genderbender. The genderbender is a moron. The genderbender suddenly turns popular. The genderbender gets hit on by every guy he meets. The list goes on. There are some differences here though they are more subtle.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
Most genderbenders involves some sort of decption. A body switch or a disguise is usually involved (i.e.- "Mrs. Doubtfire" or the 1991 film, "Switch"). In this case, the genderbender's identity as a man turned woman is fully known. I'm not certain whether everyone knows he changed or some people think he was always a girl in disguise though I imagine the latter. This doesn't make too much of a difference though. All it does is eliminate the hassles establishing an alias entails.

edit: About the only thing really different about this one is that the prince character seems quite blood thirsty and the classmates are all jerks.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
The potential for a lot of bloodshed is somewhat in question though since the prince is somewhat controlled by the genderbender. Still, he did kill quite a few people early on so don't discount it. More blood would make this truly unique in the genderbending comedic... Dear lord, I must be out of my mind wanting deadly violence in this kind of story. X_X

although i had only read this for a few chapters, i really like this manga

ryouma is very moe, the prince is a goudere, the little brother is an incest loving pervert (although its one sided) this combination makes me laugh so much especially from the little brothers reaction to his aniki sudden transformation

Slow at times but overall great!

This one took me by surprise. I was originally drawn in by the art but stayed for the story. I will admit that the comedy drives me crazy, as it's focused around Ryoma's denial and aggression towards Prince, however, I just love the slow building romance, the drama around selfless sacrifice, the characters, the art, and just everything else!

Even though the comedy annoys me, it IS the main focus of the manga. Most events are based around Ryouma fighting with the Prince or some ecchi-filled-nonsense. The ecchi is fuel for the comedy but Ryouma irked me. She is so stubborn and annoying as she rejects and pushes the Prince away again and again. I don't like the round-about shenanigans but I love everything else about this manga, so I tolerate it.

I won't repeat the plot but I will tell you that it's not all silly fan service. Okay okay, so maybe about 70% of it is panty-shots and the rest is story but it does have those heart warming scenes and it was those scenes that kept me reading and kept me waiting for chapters. However, those moments are few and far between and I find that just as the story picks up, a side story slips in and steers you off course. I get that it draws out the series but it frustrates me just the same. Just when you think their relationship is advancing...something drives a wedge between the two. Still, I felt that the build-up towards the romantic ending was worth it and even though the ending was summed upon one chapter, I was satisfied and happy with the out come.

I like how everyone likes Ryoma and instantly falls for her. Yes yes, this is not a new trait. The whole 'everyone wants to be me, be with me and be my friend' character is old news, although, it's done in a way that Ryoma wasn't popular to begin with and when he was changed to a she, Ryoma became a instead hit with everyone around her. I also like how she is fought after by people from Prince's land because of her genuine attitude, honesty and love--which is considered rare and forgotten over the struggle for leadership by Prince's successors.

This has a depth that is not expected and if you can brush the comedy aside, the story can be quiet dark at times. The quote "kill or be killed" comes to mind.

I would suggest enjoying this for the silly moments, the loud characters, the amazing art, the randomness, the political drama and slow building romance (and not only between Ryoma and Prince but with other characters as well). Sure, there are heaps of stupid scenes and pointless moments but I found the drama over powered those moments giving this a 9/10 from me.

Best Genderbender this far
by Shizuo

I watched and read already a fair amount of Genderbender and think that this one is probably the best i ever read. The story is very entertaining and the chracters are not that stupid . I would react the same way like Ryouma did ,but as a male he was always unpopular by girls and boys because of his female behaviors (why ? look at spoiler). So when he turns into a female by the Prince, he starts to like him, because that prince choosed him (a total outsider) as his " wife " . I "think" the prince is actually gay but he was forced to form Ryouma into a female so he can marry him without any Problems ( read manga to understand why he did that . I dont want to spoiler this part ... )
And the best part this story: His brother got a little brother/mother complex xD ( Spoiler for more details)
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Spoiler: his mother died when ryouma and his little brother where still child , so he had to take the role of his mother to take cafe for his brother.

I am sad that "Stare Down The Suns Scan" stopped translating manga :/ i enjoyed this manga very much = (

Love it. But not the ending

It was a great journey with this story. Especially with how inconsistent the update can be sometime. But they story was enjoyable. It was funny, cute and sometime sad. I cried during one of the arc.

Things can be a little annoying sometime. Especially with Ryoma and the Prince. I know Ryoma was originally a guy, and she doesn't know how to deal with her new situation and weird emotions (as a female, I can say that we can be moody sometime). Yet she turns out to be a "typical girl" character. She is embarrass with her feeling, and acts like a tsudera. She pushes the Prince away while thinking the opposite. The Prince then misunderstood her action, because her actions are really confusing. It was funny, but it does get old when you just want there to be a happy ending.

Now about the ending.... it was a bit disappointing.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
So they got married and now they have a little miniature Prince, who is very much like his father. What was really disappointing is that there is no scene of Ryoma and the Prince together! After the time skip, however long it was, you see Ryoma hanging up laundry in the human world. Prince is in the other world getting his crown, so I guess he is the king now. But the ending was a bit flat.

I like it, but dislike Ryoma

Honestly, when I first started reading this, I was pretty taken with it. Like others who are fans of the genre, I thought it was a nice twist. The only problem is, as the story progresses, I found myself liking Ryoma less and less. S/he continuously ignores Emilo's warnings, ignores that she's in perpetual danger except for his protection, and, seriously, s/he is a WOMAN now. The latter isn't that big of a deal; the precedent is set for that to amusing. It's the downright "everything Emilo does, he does to be arrogant and irritating" that gets me. Ryoma's complete blindspot when it comes to her brother. Her confidence that the prince will save her when, let's face it, she's a bitch to him a lot of the time.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The last scanned volume I read (vol.6 - raw) had her stupidly hiding something from Emilo even after she had been approached by a suspicious guy and right after she was told several people died after a bombing. I grant that Emilo should be a little more direct in telling her exactly what happened, but... he's overprotective. Still, dumb Ryoma has NO friggin' common sense!!

Even so, I really enjoyed the tension between Yuuji and Emilo, the fact that Ryoma is courageous even if s/he's an idiot, and the fact that Emilo just loves her that much. (I'm a sucker for a completely in love powerful character taken down a peg by that love interest... I admit it.) So, I'm not going to ditch this, but it does get a bit repetitive and Ryoma does get annoying. The pluses outweigh the minuses, IMO!

It's pretty damn bad.

It essentially revolves around the protagonist being gender-swapped by a prince who decides to make him his wife, not taking no for an answer, and refusing to change him back... so much for gratitude or consent.

The other love interest is... the MC's own brother, who only held in his "love" for the MC because he was previously biologically male.

If the above didn't tip you off- everything about the writing of this series is just as bad, and you should just save yourself the disappointment.

It was one hell of a ride, and a wacky one I tell you. Prince Emilio is a guy I totally like! I originally thought he wants to do his way but instead he's made as a push-over because of Ryouma XD
I love his problematic look and he's so perceptive! Gaaawd I want to ask for more.

Ryouma is sometimes annoying sometimes hilarious! I also love the side characters like Alicia and Yuu! They make a funny couple as well!

The climax was really great but after that it got a bit draggy, but it still ended the way I wanted but would have like to see more after
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Ryouma and Emilio had a kid, would love to see more cute moments between them!! And It was disappointing that I'd never seen them kissed or anymore romantic skinships other than the CPR Emilio gave Ryouma(which he really detested after that)

But overall it was still great!
