Best Sports Manga

I'm sorry Haikyuu!!, Daiya no A, Baby Steps, and Oofuri, but Eyeshield 21 is the perfect mix of training, hard-work, teamwork, character diversity, and intense games in a sports manga for me. (Not to say that those forementioned aren't excellent.)

Great manga. Typical shounen where there is a weak main character that gradually becomes stronger and finds himself. But the plot and storyline of the story is great. I really wish the manga would have continued on, the ending was good, but it wasn't great - but it was still satisfactory, as you feel like it still is completed. I highly suggest this read - probably going down on your top favorite manga. I don't think I've ever read any other American Football manga, so this is probably the first. This is also my favorite sports manga I have ever read so far!

architta's review actually cracked me up. If hes looking for realism in comic/manga especially in that of shounen genre, id have to say hes just plain stupid or had been tackled way too many times to think coherently. I also play football, and love watching the NFL and yes the manga is far fetched but that does not hinder me from enjoying eyeshield.

Very good sports manga. Solid plotline but above all amazing set of characters. Definitely one of my favorites now. Only thing I'd have liked was for the mangaka to describe Hiruma's background more. Oh and contrary to what everyone else said I actually enjoyed the last arc but the final chapter did feel a little...flat.

Funny, and pretty much what you would expect from a long sports manga - good bonhomie, some character development, a lot of set piece jokes, and long fought out battle.

Overall I am happy to have read it, and to find that it has stopped. The last 150 chapters or so were a bit of a drag. bigrazz

This was a great manga. It has themes of pride and racism so be prepared. If your a fan of comedies and football you will love this manga. It has a wide variety of characters with thier own personalities you will love and hate. There is alot of overexageration which some might find annnoying but it adds to the humor. A great manga with many twist and it's funny.

My all-time favorite sports manga

This was an amazing read. Even now i still go back just for the nostalgia of it. Just as a warning though, in the beginnning it was partially realistic (with added effects), but after a while it got to be super flashy and colorful. but its not like i started to like it.

There is a huge amount of characters and surprisingly, all of them have their own background and personality even with the people on opposing teams. Although threre is still a few things that i wanted to know about the end it is something every single person in the world who knows about manga should read.

It ws awesome until the last arc.
Is it just me or is this the last arc really racist? The stereotypes are crude and really exaggerated. You can't even laugh about it.
Personally, the last arc left a really bad impression. My suggestion would be to stop reading before the last arc.
The rest is brilliant!

One of the best ongoing shounen around. Period.

The reason why this is true, is because firstly the art is so very overwhelming and detailed. Each page has a lot of detail and you can see the amount of care it is drawn with. It is possible to just stare at a page for a few minutes, just to get all the details. The silly humor, which will draw in the casual reader, and consume the fans with subtle pokes at other shounens. But this just accentuates the drama and over the top parts, which will leave you saying "Awesome...!" over and over again. The silly characters are very appealing too. Each and every one of them is given a distinct personality. Plus, in the official manga releases, from either VIZ or the original Tankoubon, it includes a small background story sometime, like habits, how their room looks like, and other several stats, to flesh out the characters.

Eyeshield 21 is often over the top, sometimes dramatic at just the right moment, and definitely a must read. Not just for American Football fans, but for everyone who can enjoy a perfect example of a top quality manga.
