...the last two chapters are out and my rating went from a perfect 10 to an 8.5
I truly love the main couple, they are exceptionally hilarious and just plain cute. Haruka's story on the other hand actually made me cry out of pure anger! I am so very disappointed in sensei... was gonna give this an even lower rating but I don't wanna forget the fact that I actually liked the main story. I feel very sorry for Rio and Tomo since they will forever be lumped with Haruka and ******.

I completely understand why people wouldnt like this story. Usually I wish people who rated things a '1' explained themselves. With this story you dont really have to. The plot is the very definition of ridiculous. The naivete of the main character, the jealously of the other, RIDICULOUS! I normally gag at these types of stories, and clearly plenty of people have.
All the same I find it endearing anyway, and I cant really explain it. Good luck reading.

I can recommend this manga. For everybody who knows Ougi Sensei's previous works, has to read this one. The seme is really hot and this time the uke is different from Ougi's prev. works though, he is quite slender and cute. The story is really funny, warmhearted, and of course, really steamy It's fun to watch/read how the relationship develops between the main characters, the whole Anti-Gay Training is so hilarious Just read it and you'll love it!!!

It's so ridiculous that Rio was so impossibly, so unbelievably naive. That being said, it seems I can't not enjoy this story. It's so ecchi *fu fu fu*, and Tomo-chan is so kakkoi and kawaii at the same time!! I love that he is so head-over-heels for Rio, even though he tries to be all serious and tough. On Ougi-sensei's web blog, it says that Darling 2 came out at the end of October!! I hope that a scanlation group will pick it up ASAP! Though the last page of volume 1 alluded to drama, I'd rather just see Tomo-chan and Rio get all lovey-dovey. XD

I love Tomo the dumbo. The moment he pointed his index fingers at his face when introducing himself to his home classmates made me laugh. Every time I see that image, I have to laugh. It gives me a soft spot for that guy.
It's a dumb story with a dumb premise, dumb characters, dumb motivations, dumb problems and dumb everything, but damn, it's so funny. The narration is good and well-used (read the beginning of each chapter to see how so; it starts off normally, but after each successive chapter, it gets funnier and bizarrer).
The feel-good factor is high. Read this if you want to laugh at someone.
Downside: Rio can be too teary-eyed or turn on the "big-bunny-eyes" look too many times. This makes him kinda boring and even more dumb than Tomo. At times it drags a little. I think it's Rio's internal thinking scenes that drag.
Tomo ~ his stupidity, conceit, deception, vanity and everything ~ carries the story. If you don't like him, the chances are you won't like this story.
This line (paraspeaking) ~ "What makes him smell so good? He eats flowers or something?" ~ richly deserves a place in the Manga Hall of Cool Quotes.
Tomo's Tokyo friend, although a small role, leaves an impression too. He gets his own story! Woo.

I agree with the consensus! This IS a very warm-hearted story. The resistance that Tomo has to accepting that HE's the one that has fallen head-over-heels in love with the naive and good-natured Rio is gripping. (I love the 'twitch, twitch' before he can't take it anymore and jumps Rio!) A little more aggressive (violence?) scenes would raise it's rating in my mind: like the scene where Rio thought he was going to get hit...that got me going! And where Tomo-chan 'shows him what would have happened in the park.) hohohoho. The way that Ougi-sensei draws her seme's holding down her uke's is so very very hot. She has a powerful way of getting to her reader's emotions with her deceptively simply stories. At the end of the last chapter in Darling, there is a cute little write up from her. She indicates that she wants to carry on with this story. I can see a side-story involving Tomo-chan's dark haired friend (intriguing 'bad' character. Also, Rio's mom and Rio's father-son love/warmth for her boyfriend. I have to add my accolades to her beautiful drawing as well. The scenes where Tomo-chan is dress like a model are glamorous. (She said she had trouble with the accessories, but she definitely succeeded in the end!) I find some of her boys troubling thin though. It almost detracts from the story & illustrations because I'm thinking, 'oh god, he looks ill!' But that's a small complaint.

Can't get enough of her work!!! Darling is no exception. I adore her style, her expressions are the best as well as the relationship development. You can't go wrong with this or any other of Ougi's work.

I wish I could like this series, but I just don't. The main characters are shoujo cliches and Rio, the uke, looks and acts like a very young boy (or very young girl) rather than the 17-18 year old that he's supposed to be. Tomo, the seme, is so much larger than Rio that it makes the story feel that much more like shota. I'm not a shota fan, so this is a major turn-off for me.
Rio is a classic weak-willed, pathetic and supposedly unattractive "every-person" character ripped from the pages of a bad shoujo or yaoi manga. Tomo is a classic super-aggressive, uber-popular super-star type with whom the entire school is obsessed with. In real life, Tomo would never have even noticed Rio, but because this is a classic manga story written for girls, of course he becomes smitten with Rio for no good reason. You don't have to read this to know how it ends. It's been done a million times.
I am a big fan of Yuzuha Ougi's "Brother", "Star", and "Pure Love" series. My favorite thing about those series is that both men looked like men. Pretty, slender men, but men none the less. Yuzuha Ougi said that in "Brother", she drew what she liked, and would continue drawing that way. Well, she hasn't. In "Abiru Junjou", she began drawing girlish, adolescent ukes, and in "Darling", she's perfected it. I read yaoi to see men, not girls with penises, or little boys. It's sad to see that Ougi felt like she had to sell out in order to sell manga. What's popular isn't always what's good.
The plus sides to this series is are that the art is beautiful (if oddly proportioned at times, another new addition to Ougi's art), and that many of the lines are funny.
Over-all, I give this series a 3. The characters need to grow up a bit, as lovely as they are, the sex scenes are icky because Rio looks 12, and the story is unoriginal for all it's funny moments.
