Love the Game

Basically I like this idea of manga. Liar Game hehe...
The story is very interesting. And mostly the male char! That's cool way to be a hero!
I watched the Dorama long ago... I kinda forgot the ending story was but around Game 3. So now I read the manga.
I don't know why the author choose to make the female char absolutely very very honest... Sometimes It doesn't make sense that anybody lives on earth could be like that character. I agree that honest, kind, trustful are good point to be human. But I think she's way too idealize... And this heroine is too much depending to the Male Char (Akiyama)! OMG.
And Akiyama always said that it's not true that she didn't help, she help him lots too.... But what I see:
She's like a rabbit in the chain of food or a guinea pig or using as a bait. Somehow her good stupid characteristics is what i hate most in this manga... I can't stand it when she said that she wanted to save everyone (she's act like a god in a depth of hell). Around ch 66... I dropped it. It's just not suit my taste...

Too bad

I had quite some expectations for this one, but... it's not the story that's bad, it's the art. I dunno if it gets better afterwords, but it looked horrible for the first three chapters. Ended up dropping it as I couldn't stand it any longer...

I have no idea about the plot, 3 chapters in isn't gonna tell me anything about that. The settings do seem interesting, story looks pretty promising. But still... GAH I can't stand those faces! What's with that mouth!? It's way too exaggerated. Feels like one of those amateur mangas that well... sucks. Dialogs is exactly same, exaggerated. All in all, it was too cheeky. I never thought the art would be the reason for me to drop this manga, but it is. And only 3 chapters in at that...

Dropped it because of the Annoying (too honest & idealistic) female Lead....

I was really looking forward for this and I even liked its psycological part but the female lead ruined it. I thought it will not have ideal/unrealistic character but I was wrong. The female lead is annoying, crybaby and too much saint like personality. I tried to overlook this but I was unable do so after 15-20 chapters.
If you can overlook the main female lead, then you might enjoy it.

Edit: I never said that there was no character development. Its just that I cant handle too honest and idealistic characters. I dont think such idealistic characters really exist in real life. Seinen and psycological mangas shows realistic aspects or so I believe.

Nice try, but nothing outstanding

It's got a nice premise, and the build up isn't that bad, but I feel like the characters are missing something. They simply aren't that cool, or easy to identify with, or likable.

The guy's alright, but aside from his obvious smarts, we don't know much else about his personality, which leaves him quite bland for now. The Death Note comparisons really stop at the smarts, because otherwise, Akiyama still has ways to go before catching up to Light's appeal.

As for the other characters? No comment.... is what I would like to say, but I can't help myself: the female protagonist is just plain ANNOYING, wow. Terrible.

To be honest, I think the mangaka does a good job in making the games and strategies look smart and complicated, but they really aren't. If you think about it a little, some of the stuff really isn't all that impressive.

In the end, Liar Game is a decent read for those with time on their hands.

Grrr

<adds this one more time since it refreshed and deleted my post...>
Meh, I don't want to type what I had again, so I will cut to the chase. This series is horrible, it has to many of the "I knew that you knew that I knew that you knew that I knew that you thought that I knew that you considered that I supposed that you knew that I liked ... POPCORN!!!! <insert Scream face here>" which seems to be the only face these artists know how to draw.

The art is horrible, the stories throw common sense out the window when making ideas, and the scams would make Scooby Doo cry with how easy they are... saying you -ever- ran into people so stupid as the ones in this series. The whole, plot within a plot within a plot within a plot, has been done many times before.. and done better.

to firewing77: If this made you "think hard" to solve the problems in here, then that is something you need to work on. My post was in no way "wrong." It was my opinion, these problems required no more thinking or hard thought than reading "Green Eggs and Ham" except with an incompetent main character, and a secondary character who tries to make everything more difficult. There are no puzzles in here that common sense wouldn't get you through safely and quickly, and the fact that the main characters don't, make them stupid, ignorant, and painfully annoying. So, to anyone who reads, this was posted because the post above me was so wrong. After chapter 30, if you keep reading, get someone ready to stop you from putting a drill to your head... because after reading 30 chapters of -this- you will want to do SOMETHING to stop your brain from hurting.

Annoying

The main character, Nao has got to be the dumbest person ever created. It must take some kind of special training for someone to be that gullible. ARGHHHH!! Just think about her pisses me off. Well that's it for my rant. Apart from her everything else was pretty cool.

BTW: When Nao asked 'Is being honest really such a bad thing?"

What Akiyama should've said. 'No, but honesty without common sense is just being retarded.'

Okay I've read more of the volumes. I wish that Nao just dropped dead... after getting the crap kicked out of her.

Ridiculous

This Manga called Liar Game is utterly ridiculous, predictable and intellectually not challenging at all. The premise might mave sounded fairly promising, however, the plot doesn't show any battle of wits.
Furthermore, the main character doesn't possess a highly developed intellect and is inept to do anything.
Not recommended, unless you like cheap "plot twists".

So-so

The plot was original enough to captivate me through the first volume, but I stopped reading around 3 volumes or so for these reasons:

-Plot is predictable, if you keep in mind that everyone is untrustworthy. The author tries to be clever, but every "reveal" is so-and-so turned out to be a friend/enemy, which is easily predictable.

-All characters except the two main characters are shallowly represented. The author tries to create an illusion of psychological complexity (the main character even studied psychology in school), but it doesn't go beyond "everyone is greedy and untrustworthy in some way" (except the 2 main characters, who are unfaltering).

-Scenerios are repetitive, and it seems like the "Game" could go on and on (as long as the author wanted). This diminishes the suspense since you know the heroes are going to recover their money eventually, yet they could always be caught back into the game (repeating over and over).

-The girl main character is useless and makes one want to punch some sense into her. The male character is forgettable and nothing he does is really that clever (despite what the other characters' reactions will have you believe).

-The art is not very good, though this would not have stopped me from reading any manga. I didn't notice the lack in detail until other reviews here pointed it out.
