They make a new website.
They announce the projects they are going to translate.
They start working on 4 or 5 projects ON THE SAME TIME .
They get tired and start asking for translators\editers and unfortunately no one replies.
and Finally they say "we are so sorry we can no longer continue",and when you ask them why they say "its so hard" or "my college is ...".

Why are these people so stupid, instead of doing the above why don't they follow these steps:

Start working on one manga project.
Scan the raws.
Translate the manga.
Upload the manga.
If thats so hard on you just upload the raws and give them to other scanlators.

Yeah, so stupid!!!11!! They should just clean&translate manga all the time... Live their own lifes? College? Work? Please, what are they thinking? Pfft... And yes, they should give the raws to another group, who cares if they spent their money and time buying&scanning?

@dalek: So, you say that if they already bought and scanned the manga, it's better to just leave it untranslated, instead of uploading the raws. Because it was their money and time...

@madgamer: I suspect that most people who start to scanlate have no idea how much work it is. They think they can work on 4 or 5 projects, but slowly start to realize that it's impossible. (And when you begin to work on something you are much more enthusiastic than a few months later.)

I think dalek was being sarcastic, but I agree that it was their money used in buying the raw so they are entitled to deciding whether or not to upload.

Like Kaitentsuki said, I was being sarcastic.

You know, there's also the fact that the manga is still ongoing and it's quite productive to do some others instead of nothing while waiting idly for the magazine or the new chapter in the original language to come out.

Other than that, not all translators/ editors want to work on the same project. It's a volunteering job, nobody can forcefully make them do what they don't like.

It's because most people who start up groups become greedy and attempt to claim series as soon as they can, before others can pick them up. I can vie for this since I myself did it when I started off, but I don't bother doing it anymore.

The issue more just revolves around putting more food on your plate than what you can handle. The food looks tempting at first, so you take a lot of it from a buffet, but realize later that you can't finish it all.

It's human psychology; you can't change it. It's just how people think.

So are scanlators stupid? I probably wouldn't say that. I would say more that they're not thinking things through thoroughly before making their choices. And it's the impulse factor that ends up making the decisions for them. Many series can be very tempting to take, and with the idea that they'll "eventually" get to it, there seems to be no reason not to pick it up.

It's not stupidity. It's because there are other out there who are going to do the series regardless. Those who host their own sites rely on ads or donations to pay server costs, so readers going somewhere else for faster scanlated chapters gets in the way of that. Not to mention, a lot of people don't read and are going to give you crap for releasing later and "stealing" the series. If people on the internet were 100% trustworthy, this wouldn't be an issue. But surely I don't need to tell you they aren't. You can bring up the free site argument if you want, but that's a whole 'nother can of worms I'm not getting into.

Most scanlating groups tend to have a few ongoing projects, rather than just one. The reason being that different people want to translate different projects. Every individual who is part of the scanlating process has their favorite manga and they scan it in for fun as a hobby (and to share it with other fans). Scanning something that you are not interested in would be tedious work.

Yeah it can be frustrating when your favorite project gets dropped, but you have to be understanding. Things happen and groups fall apart, people don't always have free time, people can lose interest in a certain project, there can be a lack of translators or HQ raws, etc...Think about shit before just making a rambling post that makes you sound like an idiot.

@xtr3m3dude Why start something you can't finish, if i am going to start translating manga i have to be 100% sure that i can finish it, I will translate it completely then share it to others.
This way i won't be disappointing anyone if am going to drop a project because no one would know about it.

Because it's a hobby, not a job (or some sort of sacred duty).

That is your opinion and preference, don't push it on others like it is the most logical thing in the world.
