I don't remember if there were any transmutations performed on completely non-human organisms but considering the circumstances, such happenings are to be expected. It' the same with today's scientists who start off with animal experiments before moving on to humans. ARAKAWA-sensei probably focused more on the human transmutation to emphasise its moral dilemma.
