How about "who is your favorite western manga publisher?"
Tokyopop or Viz would probably win out for that, but perhaps if you added "in terms of quality" or "in terms of the series they release" it might be more interesting - for example, Tokyopop don't translate SFX most of the time while other publishers do.
Also, how about: "do you buy manga in english?"
-all the time
-only if i really like the series
-only if there are no scanlations
-yes, AFTER reading the scanlations
-only occasionally
-never

I guess the question would be smt like "who is your favorite manga publisher that you think puts most effort into providing good and high quality manga for their readers?"

*would be cool if you could make it a multiple choice pole(2 votes/person) since most of the readers don't know much about publishers, magazines they publish and things like that so they'd probably divide most votes on Shueisha(guys) and Hakusensha(mostly girls), that's why I'm rather interested in their 2nd choice

i somewhat like the olympic poll since it lets us find out more about the mangaupdates community but i think it would be even more interesting if you asked this follow up poll:
Do you plan to watch the upcoming 2010 South Africa World Cup?
a) EVERY MATCH!
b) only the good teams
c) only my favorite team
d) not really a soccer fan
e) what is this World Cup?
if you really feel like it you could also add in the supper bowl and the world series to find out if they like football or baseball but the world cup a better choice since it is a world event like the olympics

how about
When it comes to Love triangles who do you usually root for?
The main character (the're going to be together anyway)
the underdog (for once the under dog should win)
the best friend (he/she so deserves to be with her)
the person that only appeared in one chapter (i dont know why but i liked that person)
no one (he/she should just stay single)

You are (a character in a manga) walking down the street with a few friends. Suddenly a group of thugs (yankees?!!) appears and advances directly towards your group menacingly. What is your first instinct?
a) protect myself
b) protect my friends
c) start threatening/attacking/advancing upon the thugs
d) dial 911 (or the equivalent in your country)
e) wait to be saved (by your friends or by random passerbys)
f) run away
I wasn't sure how to tie the question into manga, so I added the optional things in parentheses () in the question. In reality, I just wanted to know how the MU community at large thinks they would do in this kind of situation. :3

When do you choose to read a manga scanlated ?
- Directly from the starteven if there is only one chapter out.
- Only if there is more than one or two volume out.
- Only if there is many chapters out and if there is few times between each releases.
- Only if it's fully scanlated. I hate waiting for releases !
- I don't care, i read japanese.
- I prefere waiting for the serialized version in my country
(i m sorry if it was already write in this thread )
(and sorry for my poor english, you can modify like you want if you choose this pool)
