Well first, it's not a proper command, and so everyone in the channel will see it (assuming you typed it in the channel window). Since it's not a proper command, you won't download anything that way. And the reason you get punished is because in some channels, too many people do it and it becomes considered as spam.

I am a total noob at IRC. XD I used to know a few stuff about it, but since it got so confusing with the commands and whatnot, I gave up. >w>

yes.. I got a question.
some people's Fserver (or ctcp or etc etc) are different from others (like mine...) err... they have numbers? (I forgot,... haven't been on IRC for xxxxx months) before a filename? So if you put 1F it just sends/queues that, instead of saying "get ____.zip"
and if you access their directory, you just put D1 (I'm making the numbers/letters up LOL), and it goes into the folder, instead of putting "dir [folder name]"
does this make sense... (edit: so nobody knows what I'm talking about, huh oh well.. thank you anyway)

Always try get filename.extension first. If than doesn't work, then write get 1F. instead of the filename.

Those numbers are shortcuts. Saves you having to type out the full commands to access folders/get the files. But as you have found out, not every fserver uses them.

no no! That wasn't my question...
I mean... how do I get my Fserver to look like that too? Mine only lists the names of the folders and the files... but it doesn't have that 1F (or 1D) thing. It's not the end of the world if I don't have the 1F thing,... I just think it's more convenient.
And I have no idea how to look this up on google... I've tried a lot. (ex. "1F".... like that ever helped) So I think it has to do with scripting...?? no..?

I think it depends on what program your using to fileserve. I don't fserve so i can't really help, but someone will know.

It depends what serv program they are using. When I used excursion it was customizable so I could have shortcuts for filenames. Other Fservs not so. When you find an Fserv set up that way just do a /ctcp username version to see what they are running.
Or just ask the people who have their fserv set up as such ;)

I could never get into mIRc,but I prefer torrents since it's simple to use.

It's good that IRCing isn't without a tiiny learning curve, it keeps the complete dumb-asses outside.
I thought I'd mention about copy-pasting and commands in mIRC specifically. It's OK if you paste them into the Status window, that way you don't accidentally clutter the channel with whatever you had on your clipboard. Also, in mIRC, when you select (highlight) text in a mirc window it automatically copies it without you having to hit Ctrl or anything. And speaking of Ctrl, when you paste text or commands by Ctrl+V, release the Ctrl before you hit enter. mIRC has the feature that it will not execute commands or text formatting code if you hold Ctrl when hitting Enter. This way you can answer the old trick question "/part and /quit were in a boat, and /part fell overboard, who was left in the boat?" just stype /quit, hold Ctrl while you hit enter and it will say it in the channel like normal text.
Now I hope I didn't repeat too much since I only skimmed the thread.

Quote from thezombieking Ahh, this worked to get me into the little channels and such, but i still cant figure out how to download >.> Depends on the channel.. usually in the topic it will tell you what to do. You either have to just say a command/trigger that corresponds to a chapter, such as "!hsdk150".
The other is to message the Bot in charge of the downloads, more complicated ... In both cases you will get a message asking if you accept the download and where you want to download it from...
bleh annoying to explain best to just read the tuts on this page http://www.mangadownloads.org/index.php?page=faq&faq= irc Best of the ones I glanced through... http://ronin.soldats.net/leech_guide.html
