I'm sure you've all heard that there's going to be a live-action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop and that Keanu Reeves will play in the movie, so I made a thread especially for this subject.

I also got inspired by the ANN article which had some good news.

"Kenji Uchida, the president of the Sunrise anime studio, told attendees of a Tokyo International Anime Fair (TAF) 2009 symposium that actor Keanu Reeves' enthusiasm for its Cowboy Bebop anime was the deciding factor in the recent live-action film deal. Uchida said Reeves (The Matrix, A Scanner Darkly, Johnny Mnemonic) himself visited Japan twice to express his interest in adapting the stylized science-fiction anime, and added that if Reeves had not done so, the deal might not have been made. Uchida further noted that the difficult negotiations with the 20th Century Fox film studio continued for two years until agreeable contract terms were drafted. He emphasized that the contract allows Sunrise to assert quality control by stating, "If the script is terrible, the live-action film adaptation will not be approved.""

Especially the bolded part is what's good. Hopefully it won't turn out to be a disaster as the Dragonball Live-Action. They'll be under Sunrise's watchful eyes. Though suppossedly the Dragonball creator agreed with the movie plot as well, and look where that got us. none

I'd say my biggest concern is the inclusion of Keanu Reeves. I'd be much happier if they chose an actor who could act for the person I presume would be playing the role of Spike.

Cowboy Bebop as a whole always reminded me of the series Firefly, in content, setting, and atmosphere (although the musical scoring was much different) so I feel the series could be skillfully adapted to live-action. However, I'm going to retain a skeptical attitude on the subject.

It looks like Keanu Reeves is a main driving force behind the project, though. He likes Cowboy Bebop and wants to be Spike, so it'll likely happen if it's his money.

All in all, I'm not terribly thrilled with the idea of Keanu as Spike, but I don't see it as dooming the movie from the start, unlike some others which won't be mentioned.

For me, it's going to come down to who they get to play Jet, Faye, and Ed too, and the script.

It wouldn't surprise me if Jet ends up being Lawrence Fishburne

you know I was like doubtful with keanu at first too, I was like why him, but then a friend was like what he has all the look of spike, and I think he does kinda the same build and also imagine him in spikes suit and with the hair, I think he does look kinda similar, all in all the only thing you can expect is him to bring his a game and one good thing about him doing it is he likes bebop hes not someone doing it for a paycheck he wanted to do this.

I doubt he uses the Spike suit, probably it will be a black leather suit just like every "another media" hollywood adaptation

I'm optimistic.

I'm no real fan of Reeves, but he sounds to be a real fan of the series, which gives me confidence he won't want to screw it up so badly. Sunrise's involvement also gives me some added confidence.

Overall, I think this film could turn out to be halfway decent. Then again, it easy to screw up film adaptions.

Fishburne wouldn't be bad as Jett. I could also see them going for a muscle man, like Vin Diesel, which could work well. Ed is going to be the tricky one. I could see Dakota Fanning doing Ed, but she's probably already too old, so it should probably be an unknown.

Faye... now that'll be interesting. Carla Gugino might do well - she's got the look.

Gawd, I hope they don't stuff it up. T.T

Cowboy Bebop has to be my favourite series. Ever. lol. Favourite characters, favourite story, favourite soundtrack, favourite ending... I don't think I'll ever fully appreciate something as much as I appreciate Cowboy Bebop.

I'm a little iffy about watching a live action version, though. Hopefully Keanu Reeves does a decent job, though he seems a bit old to be playing Spike...

I remain hopeful. lol.

Even if it turns into a shoddy attempt, I still think the very idea of a live action cowboybebop is something to be celebrated. even if its crap story and acting wise its going to look very cool, CGI can do some great things biggrin

hmmmn no gut-wrenching feeling about reeves hell in fact i think this movie will come out great but will it spawn a sequel thats my question.

but seriously i doubt this movie will come anywhere close to being as bad as dragon ball.

Keanu might have the look... if he grows out his hair and scruffs it up a bit he'd be perfect, as he is already tall and lanky.
But I think he is a one trick pony in terms of acting.

I'm afraid Keanu will probably be too serious of a Spike. Sure Spike has a serious side to him at times, but he is mostly a laid back, easy going guy. I just don't think Keanu can pull that off.
