Now that the anime is officially over, this question is in order Which do you think was better? The anime or the manga?
I haven't actually read the manga, so I can't be the judge of this (but I'd like to read it eventually) ^_^
So tell me, did the manga have a different ending? Or did the anime stick pretty close to it? If it is different, I'd prefer someone saying so without spoilers, but if it's impossible without them, please go ahead anyway

The ending was different and they didn't show the aftermath. I'd say Kira looked more pathetic in the manga and went crying and screaming to his bitter end. The anime gave him such a peaceful death that I thought he didn't deserve. Was it me or did Misa do what I think she...um forget it...

I'd like to add that even though I thought the manga ending was better, the anime ending wasn't so bad (the series in its entirety was awesome) and much better than a lot of other anime endings I've seen. The movie ending was the worst of all three versions or maybe it's because I didn't like the actor that played Light. I hated him in Battle Royale too.

people... too much spoilers in here... and there was absolutely no clue about that in any of the posts nor in the thread title...
So I'll be adding that warning in the thread title, because it's easier than editing all the posts.

I haven't seen the anime or the movie, and don't intend to, so I would have read the spoilers anyways.
But I thought that the manga was great. The ending disappointed me, I didn't think that Kira would die like that - screaming for mercy.

The manga is 100 times better, haha.
Though the anime gained some points for me because of that foot massage thing. xD <3
But the live action movies just plain suck.

I've watched all 3... and I say anime>manga>live action
each had its own good points though... I liked the anime the most because it was more suspense-filled than the manga (with the bgm and all), and there was less text compared to the manga... where it could get boring sometimes...
Although I liked the manga much more in the beginning portions of the story... because the amount of text there seemed suitable and even enriching to the story...
but around when Near and Mello appear... the text seems to be unbearably boring and there's so much of it...
And the live action.. as weird as the shinigami's look is really not that bad... the best part was how the changed the story to make L look cooler near then end and and Light's dad lives =D

i liked the manga better because kira died a pitiful death, but in the anime he died a peaceful death.
the thing that makes the anime better is the impact and the voice. kira and matsuda voice [ especially kira ] voice were really awesome, and when matsuda fire the gun shots, i really liked the impact. but the way mikami killed himself was pretty....gross.
anywho, i liked the manga better.

I really liked both but I prefer the manga. The anime was great but the manga was a tad bit different and it was absolutely amazing! I really suggest reading the manga!
I've watched the live action movies and they were okay, I prefer the anime over the movies though.

I like them both equally.
Madhouse has done a brilliant job transforming the manga into an animated series. They've done it justice unlike more than half of the manga-to-anime productions.
But if I were to choose, I would pick the anime because they've portrayed Light in a slightly better (though still twisted) view during the ending with the flashbacks unlike the manga's ending with Light being an ass till the end.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the manga but I feel better with the anime.
