The director of "Spirited Away", "Princess Mononoke", and others is out with another movie that looks great!

Who's excited!?

It's "Ponyo," and it's actually been out for a while, just not in the US (well, fansubs aside, anyway).

It's not a bad film, but it's far from his best work.

NightSwan also said that she wanted to peg me, once, but I'm not sure whether to take that as a compliment or a threat...

Me! biggrin I hope it turns out good. Doesn't have to be as good as Princess Mononoke or Spirited Away; I'll be satisfied with something on the level of Whisper of the Heart.

I hope the dub is decent. I'll probably end up watching the sub a few times after I see the dub.

It's very good. More of a children's movie, like Totoro, but it's not as good as that one.
Anyway, yeah.

Interesting. Kind of skeptical at the cast (a Jonas Brother and Miley Cyrus's younger sister are listed as the VAs for the main characters), but I'll reserve judgement until I watch the dub and the original.

Hayao Miyazaki is a genius. I don't doubt his work, even if it doesn't live up to his earlier stuff.

Saw it on Monday, English dubbed (advance screening).

If anything, it was absolutely adorable. Not his best, mind you, but still well done. I didn't quite love Ponyo's voice, but it was passable.

However, it was probably my favourite summer movie so far (along with Moon, which I found pretty good, but I digress).

Heavens, I just can't wait. All of Disney's dubs of Miyazaki's work have been great so far in my opinion, although I never got a chance to see any of them in theaters. I wouldn't miss this one for anything.

Saw it a looong time ago, the Japanese version.

It's incrediably adorable, though not as deep as some of his other works. But Ponyo was just so cute, especially during her 'chicken leg moment' as I've dubbed (no pun intended) it. It freaked me out so much, I couldn't help but love it!

i have seen Ponyo too in the Japanese version XD it was really cute although i agree that this movie does not have some other deeper meanings unlike Miyazaki's other movies... but the english dubbed version is sooo weird... >.< the characters don't sound as cute as the japanese version at all!! no

I'm off to see it now! biggrin Can't wait.

I'm still regretting not seeing Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle when they were in theaters, though... (;_; ) Anyone out there have a movie theater I can borrow?
