It could be a good story but the mangaka is really, really perverted... I mean it too. Usually I don't go as far as to call loli lovers pedophiles since their objects of desire are (supposedly) not real children, but this guy is just way too explicit in his drawings. And I am just not into that stuff. There is nothing to see really, flat chests on little girls...

I am fine with the loli thing (her real age is actually much older) and there isn't really that much nudity fanservice. But wait until vol. 5 or 6 (don't remember), when the three vampire emperors or something appear. Some stuff used for fanservice is really not that good and way too lame (but somehow attracts some guys embarrassed ) . I don't want to spoil though since most of you only read the scanlated parts.

oh loli? Why is it that whenever there are naked lolis prancing around, the anime is almost always bloody and mature. Still, i loved the manga, hope the anime will be good.

I do remember seeing a head being ripped off accompanied by a nice geyser of blood.

I just read the manga today and went through it in one sitting, I found it awesome.
No sparkly girly vampire guys here. You know, the kind that looks like their actually vegetarians and if they could they would look at themselves in the mirror al day long.
And the fact that there's an anime coming is only more awesome.
The only bad point I can think of though is that the quality of the original art is lost in the anime, which I liked a lot btw.

It was expected that it wasn't going to go exact as the manga but it was good! It's just going to get better starting from ep 2

To be honest I thought vampires was kind of destroyed because of "Twilight"... They made such a cool word into something its not and now I can't take vampires seriously anymore cry
I wonder if anyone felt like that or it's just me. Well anyways the anime kind of fell away from the manga on the 1st episode thats how usually anime works. I just hope this will be great like the manga and follow the story to a certain degree of all of it biggrin

Just watched the anime and it's FANtastic! Good solid art and animation that captures the look of the books.

I read some of the books and somehow the mangaka touches just about every taboo in the book. Loli's, yaoi, rape, multi-sex partners, shota, torture, blood, gore, just about everything you can imagine (though I haven't seen incest yet, I'm sure it'll be on the menu) and manages to pull a good, non-hentai, story out of it.

And did I mention the Vampire Politics? The loli vampire queen can be a cold bitch, and with good reason. These aren't nice-nice, pretty vampires that she has to deal with. But at other times, the lonely child part of her comes out. Great complex characterization.

Parts of the story did squick me a little (and I have a pretty high squick point).
Spoiler (highlight to view)
For me, the worst part was the 'virgin testing' by the 3 vampire lords. No blood or gore, but as a female it's UGH. All the worse for having a historical precedent.

The anime isn't the same as the book (so far) but it's a great intro to the story. Looking forward to more.

Certainly a very different beginning than the manga but not bad either. Veras boobs quaking at that part where she got up was a bit lame but if Shaft can keep that to a minimum and the production values high this could turn out to be more than a time pass anime.

What part of twilight is really vampires, honestly.
She twisted and mauled the concept of the classic vampires untill it became some kind of horrid miscariage of a concept that for some reason is called a vampire.
I was tricked into watching it with a female friend (hey wanna go watch a movie? sure, what? this awesome new vampire movie just premiered. Sweet, vampires rule.)(suffice it to say, no more friendship. before that day I never even heard of twilight.)

back on topic. I was somewhat disappointed with the episode.
The animation is crisp and the art direction is very pleasing, though the manga still has better art imo.
It's just that it didn't really start with a bang.
I don't need exploding buildings and geysers of blood in the opening episode. But what I liked about the manga was how it introduced the characters. It showed the key character traits that would be important later on. As well as highlight the relationship between Akira and the princess.
The anime did none of that.
I will withold final judgement up to the third episode.

I totally agree. And the way it began compared to the manga was a bit boring. For the first few minutes, I was unsure I was watching the right anime!!! Weird way to start the series...

Hey guys, I've been lurking for awhile but I finally made an account so I could express my disappointment with the first episode of this series. They really made the vampires look stupid. After millenia of hiding from mankind, why would they reveal themselves by going on a stupid game show? I mean they may as well go on Jerry Springer and throw chairs at the people who don't believe in vampires. It was done a lot better in the manga. Also, it was painfully lame how they worked the title into the ending "LET'S DANCE!"

I'm really disappointed. I don't see how this anime can turn into something decent after such a bad start unless the director gets fired, commits hara-kiri, etc.

I liked the game show concept. It was amusing, plus how else could a vampire come out? I mean, it's not like a news channel would take that sort of thing seriously...

I can't say I dislike the anime but I'm a bigger fan of the manga. I don't really care about loli or whatever so I'm not too focused on that. If you discount the complaints that will be ignored because the clash with aspects that are considered unique or important there is only one real complaint I remember hearing. It was that the beginning of the series went by to fast. It wasn't rushed, just fast. That is what they tried to correct in the anime and that sorta ruined it for me. Weak male leads are becoming more common in anime and manga so I was happy to see Akira. The anime seems to have lengthened the beginning by giving him amnesia to make him weak and ordinary. It doesn't match up well with the rest of the story like his trauma and whatnaught. They also seem to be trying to make Mina more comical. They screwed over fans of the characters.

Yeah, I really hate the amnesia part.
I liked the pace the manga had. It had a good character introduction, solid relationships were established and it goes from there.
And how stupid is it that he even forgot he was a werewolf? His dad knows that, so he should have told him. Or he should have at least noticed he was different than normal humans.
The only way to redeem that for a bit is to make the accident that caused the amnesia an important twist in the story. Like an assassination attempt or something.

Still, overall the second episode was pretty good, I have some hope still.
It would have been better if Akira didn't forget Mina and his family's vow to be her bodyguard.

Yeah this isn't turning out as good as I thought it'd be. The amnesia part sucks hard and they're trying to make Mina into a weepy crying baby(she was crying again this episode). Wheres the strong Mina from the manga. Too many changes and its not just that its going too slow as well. Half the episode was used up in the school where nothing happened at all. I'm gonna give it a couple more episodes and see how it pans out but really this is dissapointing by Shaft after Bakemonogatari.
