Hey
Im looking for a pen pal in japan. I just want someone who i can talk with through email once a week or Instant Message or whichever, just to be friendly with so that i can learn about the culture. It really needs to be someone who's fairly fluent in English as i dont start my Japanese lessons til next year.
Im currently studying English at university and im hoping to do my PGCE the year after next so i can go to japan and teach there for extra experience.
I want to at first learn about general culture and stuff like that as i feel that i cannot get a very good idea from books and tv. (anime/manga/films etc.) Fiction tends to exaggerate culture or completely ignore it for the purposes of whatever the story is so i wanted to actually have a friend there i can learn from. and maybe later i might ask for some help with the language
Im hoping for some one over 18 but under 30 as i find it a lot more comfortable to talk to people in my age range
Does anybody have any ideas about how i go about this??
Or know how to do this?
Please let me know. xxx
P.S. Does anyone have any friends already over there?

Online pen pal organizations can sometimes be a little skeezy, or so I hear. I got my French pen pal through my school, which got the contact from the French embassy. It took them over a year to reply, though.
I'm sure it's easier to find an online pen pal or whatever it's called these days.

Normally, I'd suggest you learn your own language before you attempt to learn another one. Since its Japanese, I don't really think not being critical about english will hurt you.

I could care less if you don't want to follow grammar rules online, it just makes the rest of us think you are lazy, an idiot, or both (by the way, thats the point, to give an accurate representation of who you are).
However, I will tell you to keep you rude comments to yourself.
Silent killer in no way insulted you, so your attitude is not warranted by any means.
Personally, I agree with Silent killer.

I'm no expert but I generally understand a ; follows a , should you wish to use one in a single sentence.

I would hardly say that my comments were rude. I felt insulted and i do not apretiate sarcasm. I apologise if i have insulted anyone in anyway, however i feel that this is not the case and how lazy i am in forums has nothing to do with my personality.
Both comments made have nothing to do with my original post but they only seem to be personal and in this case I feel I have the right to defend myself.

That should be "I couldn't care less."
Let's try to make this a constructive thread, shall we.
I'm highly doubtful that anyone (who knows Japanese) will approach you because of this thread you made. And I'm clueless to where you could find any Japanese penpals. If you're desperate, try to ask in as many active manga forums that you can find? What about the Japanese embassy, don't they know of stuff like that? -shrug-
Don't try to hope for too much.
