And it rarely takes more than a week to learn a new attack, no matter how supposedly difficult it is to master. If it does take longer, there is a time-skip until it can be used. (Meh, this last one I can't be a hundred-percent sure about, since I've been falling behind on my shounen titles as of late.)



Agreed. I'm fine if the romance is in the background and doesn't play an important role in the series, but it gets rather annoying to me if it is brought to the front.

Save the shounen romance to the fanfiction authors. God knows we have enough of those. (Not to diss fanfiction authors, though. I love fanfiction, but I've got to admit, there are quite large sectors dedicated to certain pairings in shounen manga.)

Yeah, that pants effect sure is weird.

i hate the cliche that the main character always has to get together with the first female character that interacts with him (excluding family). like when ever that happens im like "if i were the author id kill you off the first chance i get" seriously do you known how boring that is; cant they let the other girl have chance. i dont mind their being romance as long the author ties all the string up at the end which doesnt happen that often. but if its an ecchi manga it definately has to have some kinda romance.

Haha, you're talking about Naruto, 666 Satan, Bleach, etc. I agree with you on that and it DOES get annoying after awhile. I mean it's like such a big surprise that the main hero learn a powerful move that usually is suppose to take 2 years to learn in a month or a week. Big whoop.

And about the whole romance thing; yeah I wish there was more developement in that department in all the mangas. I hate to be left hanging at the end of Naruto or Bleach if the author(s) don't even tell us who Naruto ends up with or if Ichigo dies without love.

I've noticed a tendency with some shounen to have every fight the hero is in a near death experience. You'd think that after a while the guy would be crippled from accumulated damage, or at least need a good orthopedic surgeon. ;)

well firstly, no matter how tough his rival seems at the start, how advanced the adults are and how his friends are strong in the beginning, only the hero can save the day, the rest get defeated and/or must make the way for him to come. you'd think there'd be some capable 25-40 year old somewhere >_<

also, which has been stated before, no matter how big an explosion, no matter how direct a sword wound, no matter how badly an attack will destroy the scenery, the hero will still be fully intact and alive. no lost limbs, disfiguration, or permanent damage taken. even if the hero dies he'll be in one piece and just be scratched up.

Stories which're about morals. It's pretty irritating 'cos this usually means that you're taking the laws into your own hands and rewriting them to suit your "higher purposes".

And because of that, even though the hero's behaviour sometimes is more similar to that of a villain's, irregardless of whether others get killed or not, the people instead, worship and suck up to him. All simply 'cos of the idealogy that "a hero must be loved".

Think Shin Angyo Onshi and possibly a ton of other shounen and shoujo which fall into this. It kills the characterisation and makes for sub-par plot. Not to mention all that annoying preaching that makes you feel like you're stuck with your parents (like you were 3 yrs old all over again).

I don't get why the enemy just comes with everything they have at the beginning? Why does the boss always say: "Well, our weakest member should be enough, hahahaha"..."damn, he got his ass kicked...send our second weakest guy, there is no way <insert random hero> is going to beat him"..."aww,..." you probably know what I mean.

Tournaments!!!

The "bad guys" could just whack the heck out of the "good guys" right at the beginning, but nooooo, instead they have a nice long tournament which lets the "good guys" really learn to use their new power/skill/technique/weapon/whatever and eventually whack the heck out of the bad guys.

Well that would be stalling or even building suspense (that is, if you haven't seen it in Sailor Moon ;) ) and there's probably a cockiness in the leader who's probably the most powerful guy. He's thinking that this guy who took on 100 guys, although maybe equal to his weakest guy was lucky beating all those guys. And maybe the guy that faces up against these guys also powers up while he's facing all these guys. I think Bleach would be an example of that last point.


Ah, it got to be the egos of the bad guys. The "You couldn't beat me if you trained for a million years little boy!"

No matter if he's extremely badass or total loser, he never does anything on his own and lacks any motives or ambitions... It's not the most often, but definitely the worst.

i can't believe how pathetic Shonen plots are. I mean, i always knew they were and i never really cared, but i hadn't truely realized just how completly stupid they were.
