Okay. here's the deal. i am looking for a manga/anime that fits a certain story line. here goes:

one (or more) character(s) must be a female knight/soldier/bodyguard. that character should serve under a princess/noblewoman/female-character-who-can-afford-a-guard /knight-and-needs-one. the manga/anime should be based around those two characters.

Preferences (Not required):
-- this does not need to be yuri, but if it can be done that is preferable. but it does not matter to me either way.
-- i prefer almost no distortion in the art.
-- slapstick is fine, in small amounts.
-- i am well passed the age where violence, nudity, or language is a problem. so no problems if it has mature content. hentai is fine.
-- i hope to find a series that is linear and not a composition. basically one that has a continuous plot and not just a bunch of one shots thrown together. again, not necessary, but preferable.

I hope there is something out there that fits this, and thanks ahead of time for your help!

The anime for Mai-Otome fits, but I don't know how similar the manga is. I think the storylines are different. The summary for the manga says that Mashiro is a boy, but in the anime, Mashiro is a girl.

Snowflakes Fluttering Down Through the Clear Sky
Kurogane Pukapuka Tai
Shitsurakuen

Those all sort of fit I guess... all yuri.

Love the female knight/bodyguard plotlines in any capacity... hope these help.

knight princess - bodyguard of a princess.
Sapphire: Ribbon no Kishi - looks like its headed that way but only two chapters have been scanlated.
Sengoku Strays - I think, you might have to double check if this fits your criteria. Its been a while since I read it.

Anime Sisters of Wellber. Not a knight but sort of acts like a knight beside a princess.

Seconding Rose of Versailles.

Negima! has the supporting characters Setsuna and Konoka and they kind of fit what you're looking for. Also, they have a shoujo ai relationship going on between them.

And as a maybe, the Code Geass anime has Cornelia - a Britanian princess and warrior - and Euphie - Cornelia's sister who had a Disney princess mentality.

Will, post again if I remember any more.

EDIT: If you choose to read Negima!, the first book is almost all one-shots, but the various plots start to gradually pick up from there. Also, Setsuna doesn't appear until book 4.
