I've been using this site to read manga online. It's not really a good place for downloading, but I was wondering if you scanlators mind if I uploaded some of your releases there? It's a free site for people who prefer to read manga online instead of downloading it and a lot of scanlations are already there.

I think you'd have to ask the individual scanlation groups. Each groups will have a policy about the distribution of their scans. Some will be fine without any prior agreements, some will just want to be notified, others may want to wait a bit before mainstream release/viewing, some probably don't want it outside of IRC at all...

Honestly, I'm unhappy to find that many of my group's releases are hosted there. Storm in Heaven provides both direct HTTP downloads as well as online reading for most series, so it's pointless for that site to also host the projects. At least you're doing the right thing and trying to ask for permission

then just wondering. what do you guys think of sites like stoptazmo.com and #lurk?

#lurk is fine ~ that's peer to peer sharing. I've tried to have stoptazmo cease distribution of titles, but the head there doesn't give a damn. Not that I think daily-manga will stop, either, since it hosts licensed titles, but still.

To be honest, some scanslators don't care how many times over their titles get hosted, but once you realize that this is all illegal, it can make you a little tense about having some control over where the stuff you do gets posted.

Manga-Updates doesn't host anything, only lists manga releases which is a very different thing.
And Xeronia, why are you asking permission? It's kind of an unwritten rule that sites like that tend to "forget" the scanlator's distribution policies. In fact, if they cared about their opinion, they wouldn't have made a site like that in the first place.

I as a person respect scanlator policies, and I am not a staff member at that site. They seem to rely on fans to update their manga. But then, so many other sites do as well.

Whoops, I accidentally typed that because it's familiar. I've gone back and edited it.

And surprisingly, the staff of daily-manga did redirect the links to our projects (barring the licensed ones, which we don't distribute anymore) to our own pages. It's a step up from them not listening to any group policies, though they still should check before hosting in the first place.
