@segismundo
Age stoping u from reading....
First of all i read manga (watch anime, watch movies, read books...) couse of the good story in them, and can age stop you from enjoying a good story?

And the other hand i rly hope One Piece lasts for another 10+ years couse i enjoy it and so far i have never been stuck to a "good story" like this one for this long so Oda just write more and more and booo on you for 4 weak of no one piece bigrazz

And if you start reading one piece today by next weak u will read at least 400+ chapters (its that good) biggrin

Nah it's not age-related at all, I'm 22 and I still read shounen stuff, and I'll probably continue reading manga till I'm 70 years old. However I'm kind of impatient and I hate it when it comes to a point where I have to wait months for new chapters (like in Blade of the Immortal and Beserk), furthermore I'm also more interested in series that have kind of a straightforward short plot (kind of like FMA, Pluto, Death Note..etc...).

I'm sure One Piece is a great series and I'm definitely give it a try someday, but like I said, what I'm looking for right now, is a short and entertaining series with gorgeous art to sink my teeth into.

I guess since you are new to manga, shorter and complete series would seem better. You can always come back to read it later on, no one's forcing you to read it, but it is recommended as a fellow manga fan.

Luckily One Piece is weekly, but unfortunately the plot isn't as short as those series mentioned. A lot of arcs, but they're all significant nonetheless. And once you're into it, you'll probably finish it quickly. It only took me a few days to read 400+ chapters.

You are lucky you haven't started One Piece yet because now you can start reading it and enjoy the BEST shounen series out there. I would probably recommend the anime over the manga cause of the fight scenes, but that's just me. You can always start the manga where the anime ends.

One piece is somewhat boring at the beginning, but if you keep at it, it's probably the best shounen manga out there. You will probably finish it in a week cause that's how good it is!

Also, Bleach and Naruto sucks when compared to One Piece. While Bleach and Naruto were good at the beginning, it got worst and worst as time passed. On the other hand, One Piece kept getting better and better as time pass. Are Bleach and Naruto the reason why you hate long series?

...
Then why did you bother making this thread and wasting people's time when you've already made up your mind about not reading One Piece.

It's entertaining, not short, and art style may not suit all tastes. All of which you could've found out from the series info page or google.

@ SilverStripe: Thanks for the info

@ baylee: No, Bleach and Naruto have nothing to do with this, I can't judge them since I never read them, but I do tend to avoid really long AND unfinished series that seem to drag forever.
On the other hand, the reason why I am interested in One Piece is because pretty much everyone seems to recommended and is hailed as the best shounen on pretty much every website, hence why I asked about it.

@ greydark: It's because like I said, this series is recommended pretty much everywhere and there seems to be a general consent about it being one of the best shounen, that's why I bothered to make the thread. I didn't say I would NEVER read it. The reason I actually made the thread was because I'm hesitant about starting an addictive series which will still be ongoing for many years to come. If you were to tell me than One Piece would end in the next year I would have started reading right now without hesitation.
However, based on the responses you guys made I've decided to give it a try and see what happens.
It seems like you misunderstood me about the art too, greydark, as I didn't mean that One Piece didn't have good art, on the contrary, I really like the style.
I'm sorry if I wasted your time, buddy, next time feel free to skip or ignore my topics/posts wink

i think it's merely halfway. when they were heading for the new world i thought it was going to end soon but now the are so many new characters introduced and old characters that have yet to make an appearance. it could easily go on for 5 more years.

Thank you all for all the responses so far.

I have one further question: would someone be kind enough to guide me as to which scan group has made the best One Piece scans so far in terms of translation and image quality? Thanks.

i think blinktopia dose the best but there only doing the new chapter i think you should watch the anime (subbed) its better imo (but only if you have enough time because it will probably still take you about 2 weeks if you watch as many episodes as you can in a day)

Null has done the best scans of One Piece as far as i know but they do it slowly and i dont even know if they are still working on it...

So i recomend u take Null first then when u get to ther last number go over to frankyhouse or binktopia

Null mainly does takabon of One piece (is that the term? if no then complete volumes) Which is good because if you like to archive manga (like me) then they have good quality scans.

Halfway does not mean five years.

Halfway means another 20 years. And yes, I believe Oda did say they were 'halfway' a year or so back. If he only expected another 5 years, he would/should have said it was 80% complete.

I believe this 4 week break marks the halfway point in the series. So I would say another 500-600 chapters to go/ another 10-15 years?
