Ok, I was reading the other thread (Question for Female Otakus) and well, got curious on what you guys and girls think.

I personally think that the talk about female virginity has a slightly misogynistic approach to it. I mean girls who had slept with a lot of different guys are called slut/bitch/etc. but for a guy who has done the same… its seen as a good thing. Heck, they brag about it.

It’s probably a cultural thing too, but from where I grew up, guys expect their partner to sleep with them, but still want to marry a virgin. I mean… the hell does that mean?

Edit: cry I forgot to add a poll! So who do you prefer to be with?

Maybe it's a societey thing, but consider that most society views are based on their perception of reality. For example, most societies condemn incest, and we know that incest may produce birth deficiencies, most of the case is traumatizing for both sizes, specialy children, etc, etc, etc.

So what might be behind this "if girl = man, then girl = slut"? It's a scientific evidence that women that have had more sexual partners have more difficulties to get pregnant. Also, women are more susceptible to STDs. If we have in consideration that we are genetically programmed to survive and procriate, women who are sexually promiscous are endangering themselves and any future offspring. In the case of the man, the more women he copulates, the higher the chances of leaving descendants.

I know it sound's unfair, but that how it is. But just because it's different between men and women, doesn't mean it's unfair. Equal rights and views don't imply being similar. We can all be equal, in a individual way.

Virginity is overrated. biggrin

And wanting to marry a virgin just seems...immature to me. Sorry! Stop throwing rocks! I mean just a sign of inexperience. There's so much negative propaganda and mystic surrounding sex, especially the first time that it places too much stress on issues that shouldn't be as important as they are.

I think the whole "Madonna and whore" mentality is left over from when women were seen as property whose only value lay in bearing children. Ensuring that the kids were yours, meant ensuring that the woman didn't stray. Hence the disparity in perception. Also the coming of Christianity changed the role of sexuality and women in the west.

I guess after the first big relationship with sex, sex just loses a lot of its importance. Such things as getting along, understanding, respect and trust are what really makes the relationship special. Sex is just the cherry on top.

Yup, Yup. eyes Well said bully_jesus!

Sounds plausible. I would add that men on average have had more power/influence than women, and could take what they wanted more easily. In this case, getting lots of tail. People just get used to things. "We" are more used to men having more contact with women, so it can't be that bad, right?

yeah, still it depends from community to community, and even there from person to person, so you can't really say what is perverted, some even see sex aside from the purpose of getting children as a perverted act shy
But i doubt all those people saying they hate perverts, are referring to someone who has sex for the fun of it.

Well, the thing is that most guys view virginity as a thing to take, so in a lot of their opinions, having a girl's virginity is like owning her in a sort of way. However, a lot of it is actually the guys she's slept with before. If the guy before was a total douche, it makes a girl more undesireable than if she had a nice guy that she had a good relationship with before. It really all depends.

I have no problem with a woman being a virgin or not. If she isn't one then there is a limit on how many people has slept with depending on the age. And if anyone wanted to know I am still a birgin, so yay for me!

I don't know if thats meant seriously or not due to all the "special" spelling.
Is it?
But by the way, there is a very easy way to keep STDs in check. Exspecially if you have a serious relationship. You both go to a doctor and get a check.

I see your point, but I don’t agree. I’m not an expert on the stuff but I think these scientific evidences are just a well thought-out excuse on your part. (I’m not saying they’re not true, because I’ve read somewhere that women are more prone to some STD, I’m not sure about the pregnancy thing though. And unless I read it in a top tier journal, I would be skeptical)

By your logic, if men are genetically programmed to focus on leaving descendants in order to have higher chances of survival, then natural selection would favor those who can produce more progenies, like quintiplets or something. But evolution is more complicated than that. Then again, I’m hardly an expert on this… so I could very well be spouting BS right now.

Equal in an individual way is nice, but we’re not there yet. smile
