Next year's combined 3rd/4th volume of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine is announcing on Monday that a television anime adaptation of Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro's Toriko manga has been green-lit. In the story, the title character Toriko is a "Bishokuya" (gourmet food provider) who travels the world to hunt down the animals and plants needed for the finest cuisine dishes. The anime series will premiere next April at 9:00 a.m. on Sundays on Fuji TV and other stations.

The manga has been running in Weekly Shonen Jump since 2008, and the 12th compiled book volume is shipping this month. The magazine had already announced in September that a 3D film version of Toriko (and One Piece) will open in Japan on March 19, 2011. There were also two Toriko anime specials produced for this year's and last year's Jump Super Anime Tour events. Viz Media will publish the fourth volume of the manga in North America next March.

Fuji TV's 9:00 a.m. timeslot on Sundays is currently held by Dragon Ball Kai. The Toriko television anime will run before the One Piece television anime series, which currently runs at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays on Fuji TV.

The television anime will have a different voice cast from the Jump Anime Tour event specials.

is no politician interested in this?

i would be shocked if any other country in the world could make a comic or animated tv show that relay so heavely on cruelty toward animals

the good guys kill animals for fun and for making gourmet meals

it could have worked if it was for survival...but they go out of their way to find and kill animals

just goes to show what an odd/interesting country japan is

no animal was harmed during the making of this movie/anime. end of story?
plus the animals kinda look like monster too.

so its ok to kill animals if they look evil?

if they had made a realistic manga about Hunting or hunters i could have looked the other way
but finding often endangered species and beat them to death with their bare hands is just HORRIBLE
its like you all of a sudden see a group of ppl walk up and down the streets and kick hedgehogs to death and then roast it and eat it on the spot

its just a glorification of violence toward animals
not for the survival of the protagonist...just bvoz he likes doing it

nope. if King Kong were to be put in a cage I would be against it.

really? are you referring to duck hunters or those who sneak into national parks to hunt elephants?(sorry but i only know these two). The former is boring, and the latter is equally bad

agree

I guess you can put it that way.
Every time I look at this manga, I think "meh, another boring fighting series"
which means I don't see any animal in it(or maybe they are all animals?). just some pointless fights.

Toriko only kills animals if he's gonna eat them, and if someone kills them for fun, he gets really mad
