Maybe when we come around to custom lists each user could choose which lists should be accounted for in the public stats? (Maybe even unrelated to if the list itself is public or not?)

thats a good point. though very demanding on the user. so nah..

thats even a better point!! i agree. only thing is then the whole point of choosing the public or not is deminished. (or whatever word i should use there.)

i had an extremely selfish request i know no one works harder than this website and i know that asking them more is pushing it cause i think you are honestly the best in the world for manga traking...

but i was wondering if you could implement some kind of filter to mangas and seperate by complete, ongoing & oneshots

i am aware you do this in some level but i am talking more search wise i.e. like searching for complete, ongoing & onshots on top of by author or scanlator or name

i hope i get the idea across and i know that you guys are really busy but like i said selfish request on my part

your loyal manga fan Maplett

Since most stuff falls into more than one catagory, how bout something that lets one cross-reference genres? like look for seinen/romance/music manga or shojo/sports/gender bender or whatever. If there is already something like this then i don't know how to use it, but if there aint then please?

1) Word of mouth (the mouth belonging to my cousin -_-)
2) Going through the 'I'm Looking For...' section =)
3) Find manga that I liked, and read the manga-ka's other works
4) Series stats (these don't show a very accurate reading, but it's helpful =D)
5) Go to the release section and randomly click (you laugh now, but that's how I find very good manga believe it or not)

The suggest option sounds very interesting. It could be another little sub-title on the manga page =)

have a "users who read this also liked this" feature

I like this idea.
Maybe have a recommended series of the week or month section. It could be chosen because of the Art, Plot, most rated, Classic, Good but barely known, etc. But if we're going to recommend more then one at a time I suggest it be per month.

Well first let me say that I absolutely adore the "search by genre" feature here, the most attractive quality of which is that you can disclude genres that you know you will never read.
To suggest an improvement, hmm...
The only thing I was thinking of is, that when I am looking through manga to read, the main deciding point is the artwork. I find manga (even after doing the genre filter, and then even after sorting by rating) that have artwork that sucks, so I know I won't read it. It does get a bit annoying.
So perhaps there could be an artwork rating system? I know that artwork is a factor in the overall ratings that people give, but then you get series that are really ugly but have great storyline, etc., and hence get a high rating (which is not good enough for me, I don't want to read those type).
So I would love to be able to sort solely by artistic quality... If I could have exactly what I wanted, I could search by genre and then within those results sort by quality of artwork. It would save me sooo much time. Ah, what a happy thought. :3
On top of the practical applications, I must admit that I would also find it quite pleasureable to rate manga, and have my say about it without having to write a whole review.
I suppose the problems this could run into would be:
-not everyone has the same taste in artwork
-another rating system? Srsly lynira, you are so selfish XD
So, to postulate the best way to deal with those problems... It probably shouldn't be too complicated; a 1 to 10 scale is probably too much... too much room for quibbling, I think. Maybe a 1 to 3 scale (1=crappy, 2=average, 3=super) would be best. Because I think more people could agree if there are only those three... at least in my experience, most people agree on what is really ugly or really great, ya know?
Well, so that's my wish. That being said, I really don't how much work this would involve to make a feature like this... but I would be willing to help, if I could. Anyway, what do you guys think?

Definitely noy. Art is subjective.

As a person could find a plot interesting and another person boring same is for the art. For example I hate some shoujo drawing because all the girl look similar to me (for example Shinshi Doumei Cross and Merupuri art for me is bad, 'cause I almost can't recognize a character in there. They all look the same). But I know that many like them. And to me Spiral art is very good, 'cause is simple, but probably not many people will think of it as great. I also dislike Yazawa style that many people adore. I absolutely love Ares art, while many find it too sketchy.
In the review of Bleach the reviewer gave 3/5 to Bleach drawing style and some people commented that they like it and it should be higher. To me Bleach is probably one of the worst drawn shounen manga and I'll never give more than 2/5 to such drawing. This should explain why it's impossible to judge the same thing unanimously.

So in the end I don't think this will be useful because for the same motive that some manga with a high rating are disliked by many persons, the same will be applied to art.
But this is only my opinion and I can be totally wrong. smile

P.S. In the review people give a rate for everything aspect and there is also drawing style, so I suggest you to read the review and its votes before deciding to pick or not a series.

hmm, you may be right...
Art can most definitely be subjective... but I was hoping people would make allowances for different styles--for example, I dislike the typical shoujo style of artwork, but I can tell bad shoujo-ish artwork from good shoujo-ish artwork. So instead of saying, "Ew shoujo artwork; this gets a poor rating," it would be, "Well, this is pretty good for shoujo; I'll say it's average." So, to rephrase, I was hoping people could base their vote upon whether or not the artwork is good for its style--well, maybe not "base" it upon that, but at least allow it to influence their vote.
Would that give enough continiuty among votes do make an art rating useful? Well, I hope so... if enough people vote, there should be an identifiable trend that should be pretty reliable... but maybe it won't... -__-''

also thanks for the suggestion about reviews, yet the vast majority of manga here haven't been given a review. Also I don't think you can sort results by their art rating from reviews, and the main reason I would want an art rating is to save me time from even have to click on the really bad ones; I want to be able to sort. Looking at the reviews for the bad stuff individually is something I'd rather not do. I want to avoid the crap altogether, ya know? XD

I'm definitely not able to do that. I also don't think there is an artwork that is good for its style and another one not. If I like it, I like it, if I don't like it, I don't like it.
I'll probably skip to vote for art then, but maybe there are a lot of people who can do that and that will be useful for people like you.
Anyway I suggest you to look at this thread: Best Drawn Manga and to read some pages so you can understand how difficult is to have the same opinion on art.
Only in the first page are mentioned Slam Dunk, Flame of Recca and Jiraishin. These are three manga that I never picked up 'cause they look bad drawn to me.

In that case I'll just download a scan or two to look at the art and then decide if it's ok or not. Or to browse the real manga in the store. I don't think that will cost so much time. To understand if a plot suits you could be a problem, but just for the art I think you can understand that from the first chapter.

I know a lot of people who read manga based on whether it's been completed or not. And you do have that handy Show only Completely Scanlated Series and Show only Completed Series (by Original Publisher) but some people read only certain genres. So, if there was a way to be able to implicate that into the genre(s) search I think it would help a lot of people find more manga that they might become interested in.

Hey I'm new here. I have 2 questions.
1. What counts as an activity in the series stats page? Does it include updating the reading list for that series, or posting in the series forum, or clicking the series download link, or maybe opening the series page?
2. How does the recommendation list work? Is it like matching by genres and high rating? And is it sorted by any means?

Suggestion: can you make the series stats filtered by genres, like what you did with release filtering?

TY

1) Secret
2) Secret (and there's a reason why it's in beta)

I'm totally serious about it being a secret. Less than 5 people know how it works (me being one of them, but I'm not explaining it...)

As for your suggestion, make a new thread for that in the Suggestions/Bugs forum
