I was reading someone's blog the other day, and she was saying that the thing she hated the most about BL / GL is how the opposite gender (girls in BL and guys in GL) are often depicted in a very negative light. But you know, I frankly haven't seen a lot of manga like that - most of the time what I see is all-male casts in BL and all-female casts in GL. No portrayal at all isn't the same as negative portrayal, is it?
(In fact, the only story I've read that fits is Moonlight Flowers, which is an excellent yuri except for the constant man-hating going on)

So, what I want people to list here is GL where males are presented in a negative way and BL where females are cast in a bad light. You see, I'm not looking for recs today - I want to compile a list of titles that I should never read. (Because frankly, I hate that kind of thing too)

But please note - I don't consider the lack of opposite gender characters as negative portrayal. There must be actual obvious casting of a female character as the villain (if it's BL) or a male as the villain (if it's GL).

Please be kind enough to indicate whether the title is shoujo-ai, yuri, shounen-ai or yaoi.

Oh - and don't bother listing manga tagged as hentai, smut, shota, loli, ecchi or adult. I don't read those anyway.

I know this might seem strange, but I would appreciate any replies!

Not sure if you read any of these, but I'm just stating the obvious ones.

Gunjou? [Yuri]
The husband of the main character was an abusive man..so does the father, they were both dead when the manga introduced them but they have an impact on the plotline.

1001 nights [Shounen-ai with a lot of straight side couples]
The Sultan is portrayed in a negative way for killing his wives..Fatima committed adultery..they're also sympathetic characters.

The women in the manga arent exactly 'evil',Yaoi mangas with bisexual characters often portrayed women as self centered bitches or just their flings.
Surf Junkie [Yaoi]
The Cornered Mouse Dreams of Cheese [Yaoi]
Agnus Dei - Lamb of God [Yaoi]

Whoops, sorry! Didn't know about the rules for bumping ^_^

I read Gunjou and actually liked it quite a bit. Though males aren't portrayed in the best way, it's still a very interesting manga from a psychological POV (or maybe it's just that I sympathize with women in BL more than I do with men in GL...I'm a girl too, after all bigrazz )

And...I don't know whether 1001 Nights fits or not. I mean, Fatima did have a very valid reason for wanting revenge, and Shazaman is shown up as being just as bad - since he betrayed his brother without any second thoughts. I consider it a pretty 'fair' manga, actually.

Thanks for the other titles. I've added them to my 'to be avoided' list smile

How come I didn't think of that? Yes, that makes good sense! Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of titles in the 'bisexual' category. There should be plenty more which fit, right?
