Yaoi and shounen-ai is so popular that there's even a term for yaoi fangirls (fujoshi). There's tons of yaoi releases on the front page all the time too.

But Yuri and shoujo-ai? Seems like there's barely any people interested in it. I'm curious, what demographics are shoujo-ai magazines aimed at? Guys? I don't think many guys like shoujo-ai/yuri except in explicit yuri hentai. Girls? Seems like the ones that like same-sex relationships, prefer yaoi/shounen-ai for the HOT GUYS!!!

yep, yuri is popular. just go on 4chan, there you´ll most likely see many yuri pics. there are also many yuri doujinshi. but manga who are yuri to begin with and no doujinshi aren´t as common as yaoi.
for shoujo ai, well, there are many manga and currently there is an anime airing.
many non-shoujo manga and anime contain one or yuri character(s) (like toatsu maru index; for shoujo there is sailor moon)

I have always thought that male homosexuality always get more attention then lesbian (which could be both good and bad).

At internet, most of the fanart I see is more yaoi than yuri, but then I'm not really looking for yuri, but still. I actually believe yaoi is more popular than yuri; at least when it's about stories, relationship and similar things and like coolxal said, it's when it's coming to explicit yuri hentai/lesiban porn I think guys look at yuri. ;P

maybe guys arent as enthusiastic on seeing anime girls on each but they rather see real women getting on it with each other. embarrassed

i'm a bi girl and i haven't been able to find any yuri that really interests me. it was actually kind of disappointing cuz i would love to read a great yuri manga but the ones i've come across just bore me. maybe its because yuri is meant for a straight male audience that i can't get into it

I prefer yaoi over yuri any day. Most of the yuri manga out there involves cute, innocent teenage girls (or at least that's what they look like) which is not one bit appealing to me. It's cute I guess, but that's it. If there was some delicious mature, full figured, curvy women in yuri THEN I'd read it. But so far I've just given up hope on finding a manga like that.

Though I know that most men and women don't find my taste in women attractive so I can't say why it's not popular. Seems like hentai is more popular and arousing then yuri for the majority...

If you are intertested, this is how it works:

Doujinshi

Most male doujinka choose hentai as a subject, while female artists tend to lean towards yaoi themed stuff... thats how many BL mangaka become BL mangaka (Ahem... KODAKA Kazuma, NITTA Youka and YAMANE Ayano are some famous ones, but I largely prefer Ayano Yamane's newer works than her Slam Dunk yaoi doujins simply because they are ten times *cough* prettier. <3)

Professional Publishing

Yuri magazines vary in audiences to straight women, to men, to boys and even girls and lesbians... the term "shojo-ai" isn't even used. Magazine publications such as Comic Yuri Hime are for women and girls... Rica Takashima's リカって感じ!? is a lesbian manga for lesbians...

@KaoriNite

You obviously have not read any shojo or josei GL manga... like the works placed in Mist Magazine.

Lesbian hentai, however, is for straight men... it just is.

On the topic of YAOI

In professional publishing, the acronym "YAOI" is [almost] non-existent, the term "Boizurabu (Boys Love)" is commonly used among artists and editors, and even the fujoshi and fudanshi themselves (fudanshi are straight men who enjoy reading BL/ yaoi, my boyfriend is one)

Have you tried Maka-Maka or The Papaya Gang?
