Initial answer, yes. I love my country, and I want to dedicate my life to civil service towards it. I feel that if we were attacked and the citizens of my nation were at risk, I would fight.

Conditional answer is, if all I do by continuing to fight is make the situation that much worse for the PEOPLE of my country, well... no.

Really? Hm, you learn something new everyday. Thanks for the info! biggrin

depends, why my country is at war in the first place.
If my country fights on the otherside of the world and that other country had not done anything to my country? No.i have no reason to fight in that war.
The moment the enemy steps across the border into my country then yes, no matter who the nemy is. Unless my countrys goverment is a bastard rightwinger one then my country and its leaders and voters can go and die for all i care.

So obviously this question is too broad.
If, say, Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan, or the Soviet Union was landing troops via time machine or something then yes. Better to die on your feet than live on your knees, and all that. The ideologies that those sorts of governments bring with them need to be opposed even if there's no chance of winning.

If the invasion was by a less toxic country then no.

Someone said its easier than one thinks to change countries and thats true, since after middle age when capitalism made it and started the industrialization the "fight" for money made boundaries useless and people started to lose the love for what they are as a society kind of like the european union(where the thing started long ago) they are mostly the same i can live here and work there and die someother place for them it doesnt really matter anymore. And sadly thats what those big money makers want us to do cuz its easier to control us because we dont love (if wut we really do now is love) anything beside our families.

And because that we see today wut some other guy was telling us about how bad is the USA right now, but hey!! its not only the USA... check most countries and u will see tha same or worse.

Absolutely not. I'm not fighting for the people who oppress me for my faith and for the kleptomaniac government. I'll fight for the safety of my family though and I'll take a flight to another corner of the world as soon as I can afford it. embarrassed

Exception : Only will fight if an even more oppresive country is the invader.

I mostly dont do anything that is gonna cause me damage but ill be damn if the enemy is gonna be worse at treating the people more than my own country. I'll fight for my country or die trying. I wouldnt want my family being oppressed by the enemy ill start killing the enemy no matter what!

I care as much for countries as a dog cares for quantum mechanics.
There's absolutely no feeling of belonging between me and other people
living on the same soil just because someone has conjured up a set of rules
for it.

i second that no feeling whatsoever for people that just happen to live in soil as me and wouldn't fight even if victory was assured

I don't think a question like this is as simple as it seems. I would have to question the other sides policies of taking over our country and will our country benefit by it's new ruler. Also is there goal to commit genocide, getting rid of all of us who are English to make way for there people? Or is there a sort of deal where if we obey there way of living we may live?

Lots more factors come into play here when one fights for a country because it may be for the greater good. I guess what I am trying to say depends on the terms and conditions. biggrin

even if i hate my government
even if i hate my fellow countrymen

when the enemy is rolling in
destroying citys
killing my neighbours

just bcoz they want our reasourses, strategic spots

i would of course fight for our freedom

alot of commenters here seem to think war is nice and clean and that you can reason with the enemy

but i understand why you think that way
you are of course a capitalist pig
and you allways seem to come out on top
and dont care even the slightest if the poor masses get slaughtered or opressed by the invaders

i would however only fight for my country to save it from invaders
i would never take part in any forign campaigns whatsoever in the name of my country

if the war was to crush the capitalist world and my country would for some reason lead that struggle
i would probably be the first to inlist

I will be the first one fleeing, not worth wasting my only life if I could live somewhere else, once you are dead it's over, get real

For a country? No.
For saving lives, or even a single life? Yes.
For saving live(s) by taking live(s)? Maybe.

The answer to your question depends very much on the circumstances.

saving your country is all about saving people
war means people are going to die regardless of the circumstances surrounding the war itself
so i dont see how u seperate those 2
