It's a long shot, but why the heck not?

So how about a manga with a character who plays an insignificant role (or was supposed to), but over time, he/she gains a great deal of development and eventually becomes part of the main cast? The less important the character is, the better.

I can't think of any manga examples, but if you've ever watched old American sitcoms, I think Family Matters fits the bill. Steve Urkel was supposed to be a one-off character, but he dominated that show.

Moonlight sculptor

One of the unimportant character in volume 2 of the series becomes quite important in the later volumes. There are also quite a few characters who gain importance.

7 Seeds : Well, they don't necessarily become part of the main cast, but as the manga goes many background characters start getting developed more and more, and start gaining more importance in the story.
