So what's your favorite kind of romance? The old rival? The best friend? The friend who you never thought of marrying but grew into liking? etc

Question: Favorite / Best kind of manga romance
Choices:
Childhood friend - votes: 2731 (16.7%)
Long time (secret?) crush - votes: 1777 (10.9%)
Half (whole?) sibling - votes: 1493 (9.1%)
Someone new - votes: 3061 (18.7%)
Best friend - votes: 1354 (8.3%)
Idol (seemingly unattainable) - votes: 1324 (8.1%)
Rival - votes: 3821 (23.4%)
Don't like romance at all - votes: 766 (4.7%)
There were 16327 total votes.
The poll ended: February 4th 2012

Doesn't matter - they're pretty much on equal ground to me. All of them have been done to death so it depends on whether the mangaka can put a fresh spin on things. It would have been easier for me to answer my least favourite kind of romance.

Back to the poll, I voted someone new.

Childhood friend for me. New characters always win I think the childhood friend romance are a lot better they deserve it more as well.

If a manga doesn't have a childhood friend then I'd go for best friend.

Edit: Main guy X Main girl also works for me

Someone new.
Which seems a bit rare in manga.
Second is childhood friend.
The rest don't interest me or I find them stupid.

My favorite romance IRL has been a certain someone new, though. <:

Le love,
Pika.

Someone new.
But I rather dislike the "love at first sight" plots.
Although most of the ones I read tend to be lust AFS, rather than love. laugh

I don't usually care what the relationship was before between the two characters. The formula I like to see is Main Guy x Main Girl. All of those options can fit into that category, and as long as it has that formula, I'm happy.

Might not vote on this one. Just show me them results XD

my favorite would be the type of romance that blossoms when two characters are on a journey and have to fight for and protect each other ... like immortal rain, or kanata kara

i'm torn between someone new and rival, but rival seems cooler so i'll go with that. i like seeing rivals fall in love, especially if they manage to stay rivals even after they become a couple.

Someone new and probably childhood friend.
It tends to make the manga better and compelling.

Same here, for the same reasons laugh (Plus they are usually tsundere!)

Childhood friend because it seems to me that the childhood friend would be able to take more good care of you rather than someone new (since you guys know each other's weak and strong points really well).

PLUS, in romance manga, the 'guy-childhood-friend's-unrequited-love-for-the-main -girl' is usually the guy I'm rooting for.

This. Although I don't actively search for romance, I have read enough to see that the majority are pretty much the same. It's gotten to the point that i have become more or less bored any romantic plots/subplots that doesn't have an unique feel to it.

Best friend, but I hate the trend of the main character suddenly noticing that their friend is attractive or something after they've been friends for ages.

I enjoy romances where the protagonist falls in love with the enemy or vice versa. Maybe when one of them is held captive or participating in some form of espionage. I particularly enjoy the conflict of interest that stems from those plots, where the question arises, "How powerful is love REALLY?"
