i think its a good thing that people know about the horrible things kony has done but is it really a good idea to stir up so much attention? because the only end result i see of people pressuring america to take action is us with troops in another country chasing after someone who has lost alot of power and kinda disappeared 6 years ago and america is still in afghanistan cant we just let there goverment handle it?

Kony isn't just the only problem. It is good that we focus our attention in that part of the world by debating the legitimate of kony2012's call for action. The internet is a global thing. I did like to see global discussion about sound foreign policy between people of ages across every borders. I don't like it when everything is rephrase back into the American's problem eventhough the vid did call for action in the us's government. China, however, had already replace us as a presence in Africa. I wonder how they react.

i also dont like the idea that america has to do something about this because isnt the prevention of genocide the job of the un? if we do go and kill him does that mean we should kill assad in syria also because uganda adleast has its goverment chasing after kony but syrians are being killed by their own goverment

I'm just looking forward to Bieber 2013.

As for this Kony bullshit, what's going to happen after December 31 comes and that guy isn't captured/killed? Putting a deadline is empowering, but it is also risky.

Oh, well, a scam is just a scam, when all is said & done. Good for laughs, though.

I just watch an episode of the Daily Show segment. John Stewart showed that many news channel did cover kony and no one really care. One thing that Kony2012 did great was spark a discussion. Interest at an all time high to discuss about the fallacy of kony2012, Africa condition, and white man's burden, etc. As controversial as kony2012 was there is something great came out of it.

It is weird imagining John Stewart serious.

However, I guess you are right. Now at least people realize that Africa has problems.

Kony...Joseph Kony? The organizers for that came to my school a couple of times to show how the efforts have been going. The young boy who cries about his brother came to our school and spoke to our class. (From what I remember he said he didn't like Chicago) Last time they said that Kony is now on the Most Wanted list and I guess countries are obligated to hunt down and arrest him. That includes the US

Even though I understand the significance of it, Kony2012 is just another bandwagon for most. Two weeks ago people were still raving about S.O.P.A., then Kony2012 took the spotlight last week. Honestly, I'm kinda annoyed with how much attention it's receiving. Not because I'm cold hearted and don't want to help out, but because people are not earnest about it. It's been going on for years and people are barely giving it so much attention now, well I guess better late than never.

And slightly off-topic, but isn't the co-founder of the Kony2012 movement (or someone like that) detained right now for masturbating in public? I was dying of laughter when I heard the news. I just find it absolutely hilarious that such an important character would do something so ridiculous, way to represent.

laugh I gotta look that up; also, this 'non-profit' organization for the campaign, appropriately called 'Invisible Children,' are pretty shady with their spending, with apparently $90k of the donations going to staff salaries, and a good portion dedicated for advertisement, not to mention that they refuse to be externally audited. See 'Visible Children' for more on this.

@neonkitty I understand the frustration but is the worst of the worst reason to be against kony2012 if you are also a part of this apathy population. Remember how long did slavery last? Back in the day, people are content with their cheap coffee and sugar to give a shit about anything else (this is Pre- Haitian Revolution). Abolitionist back in the day brought the issues to the masses via sympathy but I didn't really get anywhere. I used slavery not because it is a race issue but to illustrate that people don't really care unless they can somehow empathize with a topic. I took another news recently, an American who massacre an Afghanistan family compare to the us Chardon school shooting. The later is more tragic and Americans every feel sad and shit. While the former, instead of seeing this as a separate horrendous act. People just don't give one shit about the victims. Either they said we are so tired and need to get out of Afghanistan. Or one yahoo comment I read today regarding the news about how the family soldier reacted, saying the news is stupid to post the picture of the family home because the Afghanistan people are violent and will seek vengeance. The american-centric attitude sicken me. Some how they were able to turn themselves (us) into the victim here. The victim of our own war against Afghanistan and Iraq. On the subject on Kony2012, on the internet I found more Americans than teens from other country get upset over kony2012 vids (even as flawed as the vid and its call for action is stupid too). But American teens gave shitty generic answer like we have so much problems at home to care about everybody else or I am so annoyed because I cannot tumblr blogging in peace because it is everywhere.

To be honest most non-profit organizations can be shady as hell. The Churches are good example. I heard some right wing religious groups (some donated to invisible children) when to Uganda to propose legislation over there called the "Kill gay Bill." >___________________<

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not against Kony2012. I was just stating what Kony2012 is to most and how people treat the issue. When I say the amount of attention it is receiving annoys me I don't mean because the video or news is consuming my facebook or twitter statuses, I'm glad that people are spreading the news. My annoyance stems from people treating it as a bandwagon and a moment issue. I am not against Kony2012 because of it, just annoyed.
And as for my position on Kony2012 (as cruel and selfish as I may sound), I neither support or am against Kony2012. My feeling about it is just swayed depending on the moment; actually, it's more accurate for me to say I'm swayed between being in support of or indifferent of Kony2012.
