I actually tend to slap people who use phrases like "Amerimanga," "OEL Manga" and "American Manga" on the back of the head. Manga are Comics but Comics aren't Manga. I would expect anyone who isn't a native English speaker to flip that around for their own terms. (i.e. I expect a Japanese Person to think of all Comics as Manga)

It's worth noting that even in Japan they occasionally call manga "comics" (コミック).

This site gives its own definition directly under the poll.
Glad to know that nearly 40% of the people here are incorrigible idiots.
Those people can try and sound as learned as they want; it's hilarious.

Clearly because you have nothing to say. It's great that we all get a view of how immature you really are. Once you find a worthwhile arguement on why we should use the american term for the japanese manga yet not vice versa; try commenting again.

So because people don't see it the way you do they are "idiots". You sir/mam, are a genuine moron, so refrain from even replying here.

It bothers me when people think there IS a difference.

I actually enjoy reading comics and manga and in a sense manga is just a Japanese comic.
In fact when I'm trying to explain manga to people who don't understand I have to use the word comic in order to explain it.
I own a ton of manga, just as much as the comics I own and online I've read way more manga.
I am seriously not bothered by this at all and honestly to get more people to read manga I think it should be marketed more through comic book shops.

"Comic" is a broad term while "manga" is a specific classification of comics from a specific part of the world. I thought everyone knew this but apparently not.

I see the problem now, your one of those people who would refer to Stem Cell research as just Cell research. It may not be "incorrect" but its not the correct way to address it either; because it is a specific type of cell, thus it needs to be addressed for what it is. Suprised that you haven't been disciplined in that manner... >_>

It annoys me more when people insist that manga is NOT comics, as if it not being comics somehow automatically makes it better (and at the same time the reader themselves for not reading "just comics"). A rose by any other name would smell as sweet - comics are comics, no matter where they come from or what you call them.

Calling anime "manga" is like calling animated cartoons "comics". Anyone do that? No, I didn't think so. =/
