I'm already congenitally anosmic... should I just pick smell, or should I pick out of the only 4 senses i've had since birth?

Did you lose it, or never have it? Smell is said to be the least important sense for survival... but I almost set off the fire alarm in my college dorm when I was making popcorn... when I approached the microwave, I started tasting a the "New York" smell(I hate NY city, because the air 'tastes' bad... odd, I know..) and my eyes started watering. when I opened the microwave, smoke BILLOWED out. I overcame my phobia of spiders (there were webs by the window) to open the window, then opened my door and turned on the fan... and it was at about 1am. .... when I told someone from my hall the day after, they were like, "that was YOU?".... apparently it could be smelled all throughout the hall...
that incident made me feel very unsafe.

That's a tricky question. I guess then the poll wouldn't apply to you or the other ones. The poll makes an assumption and so it only applies to those that fall under that assumption. "If you had to lose one of your 5...," implies that the reader has 5 senses. And if you don't then you shouldn't be answering. You all tainted the poll... It's completely inaccurate now. Thanks lot.......................

So much of taste isn't that we taste the food but rather smell it in our mouths, therefore by giving up taste you are only abandoning those 6-8 different things like sweet spice fat etc that we detect with out tongue but you will still be able to taste some foods. Proof of this is when you have a blocked nose food generally tastes the same and generally taste bland. but once your nose is clear you get a lot more flavor.

Maybe I would have answered differently if I didn't have a cold right now, but having my sense of smell temporarily taken away reminded me that without smell, I can't taste anything, so losing that one is the same as losing 2 senses, so no. I've always been pretty insensitive, so I'd do away with sense of touch. Currently it takes up to 2 days for pain to trigger after an injury, and I'd be a more productive person if I thought about sex less so... touch it is.

Yep thats why I voted for taste, cause you don't really lose all of it.
Also in a danger situation, the most useless.

Yeah, I had it before. But I still smell a little bit, so I don't have that problem yet. If something has a very strong smell I can faintly smell it, otherwise not really.
And yeah I also know that feeling, now the air tastes or feels weird even if I don't smell anything, so I can still notice some smells like that.

I want to watch Iron Man 2; by the way, the first one was well-executed.

still rather smell it but not taste rather than not do both. You're just losing two senses instead of one which just seems ridiculous to me.

If I really must choose, I'd pick Touch. I could live without feeling soft and sharp things. The only way I would know if I were injured is if I got cut and it started bleeding or I get a bruise. I could never live without hearing, sight, smell, and taste.

I wouldn't give up none of them they are all important.

More than a half chose to sacrifice their sense of smell which is equal to lose half or more of their sense of taste.
The second one is taste I can't see myself not able to taste my food.
The sense of touch is the most dangerous one to lose; you can be trained to functioned without your sense of hearing or sight, but you are pretty much screwed without your sense of touch as you need it to survibe; you might simply die from heat stroke during the summer time.

I guess smell is your best bet

Yeah, a lot of food tastes different, but some food tastes exactly the same (or almost). I can say that from experience wink. But for example Cheese is totally different.

You lose some aspects of taste from losing smell. Not all. Not even the most important core elements. Smelling your food but not being able to taste it ever is like torture
