Yeah, I'm finding this amusing. To quote Mark Twain, "The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug."
Just saying.

LMAO. If you say so, fool. If you say so. Viz has made so many bad translation errors, I could write a BOOK on it, especially in the beginning. Why else would they have had to RETRANSLATE several of their series, on TOP of "flopping" them? People were pissed, because they were advertising them as "Flopped and with all-new, better translations!"
Besides, I half think the reason they're bothering to crack down now is because TokyoPop is not cutting into their profit margin any more, whereas scanlation is the new competition.
Also, a scone is not what US-ians consider a 'biscuit.' Or, you've been eating shitty scones. Seriously. That's like saying Rugby is like American Football. No. It's not.

Don't be so ignorant. I wasn't denying your claim about Viz's translation quality. Was just giving a point as to how different will take meanings differently about words.....and how there are different words and sayings that mean the same thing, only put in different words. It's up to individual preference as to weather or not it's the appropriate word in their own judgement.
As for why they're cutting back more, I think you're partly right about the competition part. scanlation has gotten incredibly larger than it was in the past, when it was simply ignored. And it keeps getting larger. This in effect becomes large competition to those businesses, and not in a legally competitive manner so they can't compete as well. Now that there are more groups (there are some scan groups and online readers) that are taking advantage of this to make profit that costs them even more money.
Basically the threat to the license holders just keeps increasing.
Also, biscuits and scones are the same basic thing. If you try to go by quality.....well there are shitty quality scones and shitty quality biscuits. Not all are the same. And I would never compare Rugby to Football since they are completely different sports.

you are right i picked the wrong one since in context she wants to have a kid so she isnt lonly she doesnt want him to love her she wants him to "mate with me" so she can have a child and isnt lonly... if i had explained it perhaps then... ill use this as an example from now on episode 12 season 1 spice and wolf "It's not that not being able to say "see you later" doesn't bother me." i had to re-read that many times to understand it... this is about viz not funimation i have never bought from viz but i was playing devils advocate using my own experience with funimation

I think you're having a tougher time translating into the English language than Funimation is. That's just my opinion though.

It's hard translating from one language to another anyhow. Especially more so between two languages with so many differences between them.

As I stated before translating one language to another isn't so easy. I still stand by what I say, I'm sure Mark Twain wasn't thinking of how his words would apply in a different language. Many words can be ambiguous and strange to another language and country. Not every translation will be perfect, or match what you expect it to be. A good example of this has to be the puns used in some manga. A good amount of the time a lot of the translators leave notes on how hard it is to get the joke across, plus there are ones that just go over our heads. Don't get me wrong... I don't dig a crappy translation and being asked to buy it (example Ikkitousen, not a great story overall, but could do without the forced slang). But as I said not an easy job. I'll agree with you on the retranslating situation, it is a major fail on the company for that.

For some reasons when people get picky over descriptions to describe things related to a subject most forum threads start to stray in these manners. It's unfortunately common on forums and such.
