Okay, this isn't the best place to ask this but google isn't helping at all so please bear with me laugh

My friend recently got a new computer and his dad set up a recovery point that automatically activates whenever the computer is shut down (including restarting) and his dad just doesn't seem to know what the hell he did.
I've played around with it for a few hours and everything I tried just ended up reset.

Anyone have an idea on how to stop this or a link to something that might help us out?

since it's completely new why don't you just reinstall windows? there shouldn't be much that can be lost

You mean that it keeps cycling around system recovery?

I would also recommend to just install windows again. Similar problems have happened to my laptop and I couldn't find another way to solve it with my mediocre skills.

This issue usually happens when its meant not to. Its something in the settings that you most commonly see active on public computers, such as those at Libraries. Basically, after installing programs, people set them up to restore at the end of the night before shutting down (sometimes the process also happens at boot, before Windows loads).

To be honest, I don't remember the solution for it. You're best bet is backing up any files you need, and reinstalling Windows from the Backup and Restore menu. Access that by click Start, then finding the folder called Maintainence. Click Backup and Restore.

Scroll down to some blue text that says "Recover system settings on your computer", click that, then scroll down and click more blue text near the same area the previous blue text was. This text should read as "Advanced recovery methods". Click "Reinstall Windows".

This method will completely format and reinstall Windows, which is why you want to make sure to backup any files before doing so. Once you're back in, it should be back to normal.
