Salutations! I'm looking for a miniature computer.... Like a cell phone only it's not for calling... Like, I can put some random small programs on it and mess with it wherever I am. Basically, a computer smaller than a laptop that I can easily fit in my backpack or even a pocket. Like a Gameboy even.

ipads and tablet computers can't fit in regular pockets but they'll work in a bag, sure. I think you might mean something like an ipod touch or something similar. They're the size of a cellphone and they can't make phone calls on their own but they are primarily used for their ability to run apps. Most phones do both though - act as a mini computer (with browsers and games and such) but also function as a camera, and communication device. I have an iphone and I treat it like my child.

Well like, the problem I have with iPhones and such is that they are limited to mac-related things... And I'm not looking for anything fancy. It just has to be able to run some very small programs.

As for tablets, they all seem pretty expensive AND fragile (and scratchable), while those "barebone" things look like you could (not that I would try) drop it and have nothing happen to it.

You could go the netbook route. The Asus eeepc line works well, and I've had very few problems with mine. I've had it for a year and it's been quite reliable. Try to find one that's dual core and you should nearly be set.

It won't fit in a pocket, but a purse or small backpack would work fine.

Its a mini-tablet first and a phone too
its quiet solid (I've dropped it many time and didn't even get scratched)
It's using a Debian(Linux) based OS called Maemo
what does that mean ?

you can tinker, programme and even change the Operating system ( Android, Ubuntu ...etc)
I used to ssh to servers and hack wifi passwords with it
to this day nothing that can surpass it appeared yet!!
