This reminds me, I read shoujo manga lots in the past but now i'm sick of it(i'm only 14)Why?Because the story lines are the same: Here is an example: +Handsome, princely guy with a normal girl. +The girl hate the guy at first and then fall in love. +She got bullied and keep it quiet from the guy. +She started to think she's not fit for the guy. +The guy explain something to her and they went back to normal. Finally a happy ending like:"From now on we'll support and love each other even much more"type. Sick of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They don't get new ideas but use old ideas and fixed it a bit. To be honest, shoujo creativity is nearly 0%!!!

funny, none of the shojo manga I enjoyed are like that, and there's an amazing amount of diversity among my favorite shojo manga. Maybe you are just reading the wrong ones?

I used to be an avid shoujo-reader, still am somewhat!
Back when I was 13, 14, I could devour any shoujo. But as you grow older and you read more and more of them, you do start to see a repetitive pattern amongst common shoujo mangas.
You grow out of it. However, this is when you really start to look. Don't just wipe out the entire demographic. Like a needle in a hay stack, there are some really good shoujo mangas amongst all the other... quite frankly, crap. ;3

Shoujo is crap The worst sickest mangas I have read were shoujo And most shoujo is like this Handsome guy and "ugly" or average girl Girls falls in love with him or in smutty shoujo he rapes her and she still loves him They live happily ever after Seriously I want a realistic story please,I feel sad for shoujo fangirls that believe the world is all rainbow and flowery like in shoujo grow up stuff that happen in shoujo will never happen you will probably gall in love with a handsome guy but he would just use you and make fun of you and your heart will get broken and no handsome other guy will come to you declaring he loves you nope it will stay that you have a broken heart and if you are lucky you will marry a ugly and annoying person because you can't find anyone good or you might stay forever alone also BL is hotter Sorry for my ravings

I find it hilarious that someone who loves BL, which by definition is a subgenre of shojo, would blast shojo manga as unrealistic when a lot of BL are just as unrealistic and idealized. It's like that Chappelle show skit with the white supremacist who doesn't realize he's black.

I overall agree with this perspective... The Shoujo genre is like a "starter kit" for manga beginners, but then you begin to realize the patterns and start looking for the gold in the haystack. Or sometimes you find that the background characters are FAR MORE interesting than the main characters, then you start looking for "similar" background character traits...

Honestly - Some stereotyped aspects can be found in every genre out there, so it's just a small matter which gender combination the main couple may have in the end, if it's about romances. Therefore - I wouldn't say, that you can't find those "girly" images also in some BL Mangas or that every Shoujo has to have them ... -.-"

bl is often so girly it hurts. you really have to trudge through the ones where the uke is really just a girl with male genitalia and the plot is love triangles, jealousy, flowery bishies, and so much uncalled for insecurity, to find one that is decent. shoujo 2.0 is what i call it. but finding the good ones is completely possible. the genre is diverse, thankfully. you just have to be persistent.
i don't read a lot of shoujo anymore, but my favorite manga is still yamada tarou monogatari.

for me the biggest turn off for Shoujo manga is the artwork. I'm generally pretty receptive to any type of storyline or genre (except yaoi), and most types of artwork. But for some reason, I just can't stand the typical artwork of the Shoujo genre. You could probably slap any storyline into some other form of artwork and I'd read it.
Just my two cents.

I'll read shojo, just as long as they don't have female leads and deal with romance. Females in manga are so damn annoying and I can live without the romance. I do enjoy myself God Child (and her other work) and Silver Diamond (want these series to be picked up again), and other shojo series like that.
I do read BL series, too. Sort of have to deal with that romance, but whatever, the men aren't annoying. and you have some great titles like Finder and Border.
