I've had two PSPs since 2005 and I still use them regularly. Over the years I've come to the conclusion that some types of games are better on it than others. Driving and straight fighting games are not very good IMHO - the PSP pad gives too much pain for protracted button-mashing (I ended up with a bad case of Tenosinovitis because of the ***ing controls). What it does suit very well are strategy and RPG games with a good bit of action thrown in.

For PSP here are some of my all time favorites:

Generation of Chaos - Strategy RPG with horribly steep learning curve but totally worth it. Very few reviewers ever got as far as understanding it properly, but when you do it's a gem with about ten storylines and a couple hundred hours play. There's a well-regarded sequel that I haven't got round to yet.

Brave Story - Amazing RPG. It's linear but looks beautiful and has an excellent story

Jeanne d'Arc - Superb animated cutscenes and well-engineered game mechanics (yep, another JRPG)

Disgaea - afternoon of Darkness - Upgraded Port from PS. Very witty and enjoyable SRPG. Also has a sequel.

Monster Hunter Series - I think three of these were made, all with great mechanics. Can be a shock when you meet your first really big beast as the difficulty ramps pretty sharply. Great action/fighter. (Yeah I know it's a fighter but it's just too good to ignore!).

Breath of Fire III - Another port done really well- many hours of enjoyment

Everybody's Golf aka Hotshots Golf. I don't even like golf but this game is wonderful fun.

Of the Final fantasy series, I and II are okay if you like oldskool RPG and the graphics have been tarted up for the PSP, and FF Tactics is a top-class Strategy RPG. I haven't found a reliable port of 7 or 8 (I would love these for PSP), and the rest I still haven't got round to yet...

Kingdom of Paradise (aka Key of Heaven) a great fighter/RPG. One of the first titles for PSP and still one of the better ones.

Lunar Silver Star Harmony - yet another refurbished/updated port of a JRPG. Beautiful game

Mana Khemia Student Alliance. Slightly panned when it came out due to being a PS2 port with not many changes, but the fact is if you haven't played it, it's a godly game for the PSP. Has a few different endings.

Phantasy Star portable (and sequel). Great Scifi slashy RPGs with a huge array of skills and weapons available.

Tactics Ogre. A fairly stupid name hides probably the Daddy of Strategy games for the PSP.

Tales of Eternia. Another port with upgrades. Classic RPG with a good story and some great music and cutscenes.

Tales of the World, Radiant Mythology. Another great 'tales of' title with quite a few guest characters from the other games in this series which is all but unknown over here but as big as FF in Japan.
