My mom will watch with me if she likes the series (so far, she's enjoyed Cowboy Bebop, Yukikaze, and Jyu Oh Sei). She doesn't make an effort on her own to watch though. And no reading whatsoever

No, they never tried. In fact, they always found anime/manga sort of ridiculous and thought it was only for children. (Since their experience with it includes only Naruto, Pokemon, and Sailor Moon). At the same time, I never felt the inclination to introduce them to works targeted to an older audience. My parents are incredible religious Roman Catholics, and if they even got the slightest hint that I had read Berserk or something similar I could see myself never being allowed on the internet again. So, they don't read/watch manga/anime, and for that I am eternally grateful.

I really like this poll It's interesting to see how other people's parents react.
My dad likes to tease me about it, although not meanly. I don't really think he cares one way or the other to be honest, although he probably thinks it's a little silly.
My mom has watched a little anime with me... and although she tries I don't think she understands it very much. She tried to watch Howl's Moving Castle, for instance, and I got so many questions of "What's going on? Who is that? Why does he care so much about his hair?" that I couldn't answer all of them. I'm still trying to find one that she'd enjoy haha.

Haha, manga's in my blood. My dad started on manga since his teen days and he's still an avid fan now. Yeah, I've got a pretty cool dad, although now he watches anime mostly... He watches all the popular ones like Fairy Tail and Hitman Reborn and One Piece, and a good lot of other stuff that I've never heard of. Sheesh, he even dabbles in Shoujo now and then. My mother likrs the classics, so Doraemon? And she watches with the rest of us now and then. They buy me manga for my birthday, although none of them read the genre I read... Yaoi... Ahem... Well, they don't quite understand it and they poke fun at it a lot. Gosh the gay jokes you hear at my house... But they're not really judgmental.

My father's a scholar of Elizabethan literature and poetry. Manga is not his "thing."

I remember my dad watching DBZ since... well, since I can remember. xD
Even today I hear him complaining about Sasuke to the TV.
My mom has tried to watch anime but it's just not her thing. She's more of the Whovian type.. though she'll eat up some Miyazaki movies.

There should have been this option on the poll: Don't know what manga/anime is.
That's pretty much my parents.

This poll should have really had an option like "I don't see any race other than 'human'".

My dad does like anime. Waaaay back since Sailormoon started, I used to record the episodes and made him watch it with me, LOL. He also enjoyed DBZ back when we had cable. Inuyasha, Rurouni Kenshin, Chobits, NGE were some anime dvds I bought that he also liked. Now, for some years, I've stopped watching anime but he still keeps up with the top shounens. Naruto, Bleach, One Piece are ones I know for sure he watches.
So yeah, he's been a fan for awhile and still is! Me, not so much anymore. Mom just watches asian dramas. She did sit through one episode of Inuyasha just 'cause there were chinese subtitles. Heh.

i voted no, but, I forgot that my dad watched part of Moribito and liked it. I know he'd enjoy some action/political shows (he loved Avatar) but, I can't recommend the shows to him. I can imagine him judging me b/c some of the stuff in the shows.
My mom would never. It's not that she dislikes the storylines (big drama fan) just she doesn't like animation at all. Nor is she interested in comics.

Looks like this applies to me as well.
