Just by watching anime? which is easier, japanese or chinese?

That is a curious question. Chinese is hard, however Japanese uses Chinese characters in their writing system.

Chinese would be harder, especially if learning the traditional style of writing characters. The characters that Japan copied are almost all simplified characters.

Here's what I don't get. Why are Japanese using so many Chinese characters in their language? Perhaps they should call themselves Chinese now......

Lets see... First off, I am pretty mix! On my pop's side I have: African, Native American (tribe in South of Louisiana-forgot the name. I believe it starts with a C), French, and Welch & on my mama's side I have: Italian, Irish, British, Scottish, and Japanese. Mmm, so pretty much my nationality covers quite of bit of regions except South America and Australia... ^_^

Does Indian mean Native American or people from India?

I'm going to assume the later. My Race is other. I am a curious mix of Native American - Blackfoot (Which is what I look most like), Norwegian, and bits and pieces of French, German, and Canadian. Mostly Native American and Norwegian though.

Nationality wise, I am American, as I live in the U.S.A.

Why you ask? because once upon a time, long LOOOOONG ago. Japanese were once Chinese people. This is a facteyes heck, even Vietnamese, Koreans, Thais(i think) were once Chinese. Chinese people can be found ANYWHERE in the world they seem to travel a lot. Well anyways..back to the Japanese. Ive heard a story, im not sure if its true but it was something like this:

Once upon a time, the king of china (i dunno which dynasty or w/e...but lets assume its one of the first) ordered a grp of men to go to the eastern land in search of something that would give him immortality(i think it was a potion or something). If they were to return empty handed, they would be executed. Obviously, they didnt discover such substances. So they stayed on that island now called japan and never went back. I guess they started messing around with the language and writing style and such(maybe they got bored? bigrazz )

So there you go, an explanation on why japanese use chinese characters in their writing...a bit far-fetched but seems logical to me. eyes

If it's not because of the WW2, there would be more chinese characters in the japanese language.
If you're more attentive, it's not only the characters, but there is even a lot of chinese in the japanese language (when they speak). It's a bit deformed though ....

I heard of this story before. This emperor you are referring to is Qin Shi Huang. He also played a major part in building the Great Wall of China. According to the History channel, his obsession to seek out immortality drove him to believe in Taoism. The Taoists made tablets of some sort mixed with mercury claiming to be immortality pills. At the end of his life, he was driven insane by the mercury pills he had taken. As we all know high mercury contents in your body make you go crazy. That's how the name "Mad Hatter" came about. Hat makers use to lick the rim of the hat while making it. The rims contains mercury substance, which made them go insane. But that was back in the days. The history channel did mention he sent out huge amount of ships carrying thousands of soldiers in search of immorality.

However, the part about japan...I'm not sure...

Here's an article I found on Wiki. Japanese people may have immigrated to Japan from China during the cave men times......but I find it hard to believe since Chinese look like Japanese and look like Korean but not Russian or Indian.......

""Archaeological research indicates that people were living on the islands of Japan as early as the upper paleolithic period. The first written mention of Japan begins with brief appearances in Chinese history texts from the 1st century CE......The first signs of civilization on the Japanese Archipelago appeared around 10,000 BCE with the Jomon culture, characterized by a mesolithic to neolithic semi-sedentary hunter-gatherer lifestyle of pit dwelling and a rudimentary form of agriculture. ......The Japanese first appear in written history in China’s Book of Han. According to the Chinese Records of the Three Kingdoms, the most powerful kingdom on the archipelago during the third century was called Yamataikoku...."" Taken from Wikipedia.
