Quote from jeffreymgibson
I always rooted for zero and even though he ended up with the girl, whats so great about getting a girl who has someone else as her number one in her heart. Yuki's daughter even called Kurname her beloved at the end. The author went so overboard in trying to make the manga dark and emotional and I ...

See, that's the thing, reading it all at once, I would probably break my laptop. It would be too much.

From the start I wanted her to be with Kaname, Zero always seemed a bit too... emo-ish to me(well, I know, I know, he WAS a teenager and he had his reasons, but still... ), but after Yuuki became a vampire and still stayed a stupid little useless girl who only talks and talks I was giving up...

And I guess the final nail into the coffin of this manga was when Kaname went crazy, after that it was getting more and more ridiculous every day.. O_O

I actually never ever expected that with last chapter Hino can actually raise the border of ridiculousness of VK....it didn't seem possible lol

Huhh? Yuki died at last? I'm almost satisfied! Zero's dead too. oh, wait, wait... Kaname also turned into a human without his "oh, so great powers"... okay, now I'm totally satisfied. At least with this ending Hino-sensei, her editors and publishers could satisfy my sadistic desires piled up in me since almost a year ago... roll

By this amount of ridiculousness in the last chapter, they actually helped us get over all the crap chapters published in the last 2 years. I'm telling you guys, they have my thanks in another funny way... dead

I find the ending rather frustrating in general. It would have been simple to tweak it slightly so that all three main characters had a happy ending: First kick Isaya awake from wherever he's been napping for the past thousand years so he can change Kanami into a human. Then Yuuki takes the "medicine" that was developed and becomes human as well. The pair would then have been able to live their final days growing old together before passing on at the end of a "natural" human lifespan.

Zero is the only one of the main characters to get a happy ending; he got to spend his life with the woman he loved, only to leave her alone to stand watch over the man she was supposed to spend eternity with.

I am curious if Yuuki and Zero had any children. I see many are claiming one or both of the children at the conclusion are Zero's, but that is impossible: Any children fathered by Zero would not be Pureblood vampires. Their life span would be similar to that of their father, and they would have died well before the 1000 years had passed. To survive that length of time both siblings must be Purebloods fathered by Kanami, twins produced from his and Yuuki's single night together.

Welp, Yuuki didn't wait for the medicine to be developed and she didn't ask Isaya to sacrifice his life. She decided to do something entirely different with her life. But, do you really think Yuuki popped out twins for Kaname and one of them miraculously looks just like Zero? REALLY? The boy child could pass for a younger Ichiru.

To your curiosity.
1. Vampires age at a slower pace than humans.
2. Zero is a Level E, so he managed to live for 1000 years. "Noble" vampires, like Aidou and Shiki, live longer. Any child Yuuki has with Zero would be 1/2 pureblood and would definitely live longer than daddy.
2. You assume that Zero and Yuuki had kids when they were teenagers and their children would be a few years younger than them. They spent 1000 years together. There is no rush to pop out babies, they don't have the lifespan humans do and would not need to have kids as early as people do in real life. I think Yuuki's parents were thousands of years old before they had a children.
3. The two children can really be any age. 800 or 100 years old. Anything.

I am beyond disappointed with the ending. I know Matsuri Hino said that it's a tragic love story but still...I think she should have gone against unconventional wisdom and make Kaname, Yuuki and Zero live happily as threesome. What kind of happy ending is it when Yuuki only ends up with Zero partly due to Kaname's dying wish, and that she resurrects Kaname as a human all alone? Are there no longer other vampires, especially purebloods? I know she's trying for a realistic ending but there are too little things addressed in the ending. What about the other couples?

I think the children are both Zero's and Yuuki's, the girl's resemblance to Kaname is because well, Yuuki and Kaname are related. And the translation did state "our other father", giving the impression that Yuuki raised them to know Kaname.

I agree there should be extra chapters, there are just too many things unresolved in this ending that to do otherwise would anger fans even more.

It's been 1000 years and the medicine's already developed. Besides, Isaya would likely turn Kanami of his own will, without prompting. He had already been determined to perform such an act originally, as a final favor for Yuuki and Kanami's parents. As for the twins question, yes, either they are Kanami's children or the author simply didn't care enough about the ending to create something that makes sense. I choose to believe the former, because if the latter is true it means the author gave up on the series before it could be properly finished.

Zero didn't live 1000 years; by the end he's been long dead. Additionally, there's no such thing as "1/2 Pureblood". The noble families are the result of Purebloods that had children with non-Purebloods, so it could be argued that any children fathered by Zero would be of similar status as a noble. That being said, not even nobles live that long; the only vampires that live centuries or longer are Purebloods.

It's not confusing at all. Hino made complete sense. Anyone who looked at the chapter can easily see the boy at the end of it is Zero's son. He looks exactly like his father. And noble vampires do indeed live for centuries, while purebloods live for an eternity. Those are Zero's children. Why don't you check the chapter again where Yuuki states that the furnace goes out today and Aidou (who is still alive) recently finished the cure. So yes, Aidou's life surpasses 1000 years.

As a vampire who lives off Yuuki's pureblood, Zero's life would be greatly expanded. His children would be half pureblood and half level E... noble level vampires who will also surpass 1000 years. In conclusion, no where in the chapter does it say that Zero died looooong ago. The opposite is suggested.

For a series that no one knew how it would end, I thought it had a good ending. Although not what I wanted, but I am satisfy.

So I wasn't the only one who felt this!? I honestly didn't feel this with only the last chapter; I sensed it early on but I thought it was just the Zero fan in me over analyzing things. I'm pretty sure she was a Yume and Kaname fan. Even mangakas have a bias, but I only hope that their favoritism d ...

I stopped to long ago to say how it was between now and then, but i also had that feeling before. Somehow it was always him and stuff >_>
But i also think a mangaka should be objective... Well, if she was rushed than i asking: Why?
Wasn't VK one of the most popular ones? Or do the fans hate yuki so much that the publishers wanted to get rid of it? Öö

Quote from story645
Kaitomi is right about the butterfly symbolizing souls[/url], and xxxholic (and the various other CLAMP works) use it as symbols of fate and destiny and the like, and I figure Hino is doing the same.

So it was something like this öö

I still dislike this whole child-thing (another reason why i stopped). It's in parts so illogical (for me). And the ending made it even more stupid: Why it takes sometimes 1000 years and sometimes not to get a child? (Or was it just Hino's stupidity to make a Yume child?) Maybe i missed something, but that doesn't make sense.

To the discussion of TheWikiFool and PJ1:
I think Zero lived 1000 years as he became that "ultimate weapon" thing öö (That's how i interpreted it ^^') So he lived longer than normal Lv E Vampire and disappeared after those 1000 years. As yuuki mentioned that furnace, i thought it would make sense. öö

I just finished bawling my eyes out after reading the last chapter and the Extra released very recently. It didn't us much (Vampire Knight: Tokubetsu-hen), but it's a morsel to a dying man.

Overall, when I think Hino Matsuri finally figured out where she wanted Kaname's personality shift to lead to, she'd already lost a lot of fans due to her rambling, wayward chapters. I know I used to wonder when this arc is finally going to get over, for almost three full years!

Was I the only one screaming at the laughable lovemaking scenes between Kaname and Yuuki?! Good grief, I know it's not smut, but you could have built it up A LITTLE Matsuri sama!!! The very story about these lovers and their struggles goes on for 18 volumes. I don't think it's asking for much to devote a couple of chapters at the very least to their final union!

And don't even get me started on Zero... poor poor Zero. Not only does Yuuki never admit her love to him (at least not when he's finally confessing and regretting), we don't know whether he's dead for sure, if that son is his or how his post Kaname life turned out (much, very little is explained in Vampire Knight: Tokubetsu-hen).

I think series which are set around high school/teenage angst phases shouldn't age characters beyond their prime or give them children and then kill them off, it leaves fans with a seriously bad aftertaste and sort of ruins all the nostalgia associated with the epicness of the story.

I don't think it's a horrid ending, but it's definitely one that'll keep fans thinking and longing. Closure was given, but even more was left unattended so it's a very sneaky way to handle these characters we've come to grow and love (Who am I kidding, we live and die with these characters!).

I really used to (and still sort of) respect this series coz despite crazy veering storylines, it hit the bullseye when it came to the main love triangle. It was very well balanced, and no one could ever come in and pull anyone out of their misery, keeping it alive till the very end. I don't like how it sort of became skewed towards Kaname so very much by the last volume, though given Zero's constant iciness towards Yuuki, no girl would blame her!
And talk about selfish! I know Kaname had his (ridonkulously twisted) reasons, but to leave your soulmate behind, first for a haphazard killing spree and then to sacrifice yourself before you've even embarked on the life you've planned together with her or offering any explanations about your actions... Geez! SELFISH! I couldn't believe how non bishie-Prince his intentions seemed from a heroine's perspective in Chapter 89!

What I'm definitely looking forward to at this point is a season 3 or even an OVA for the anime. Unlikely seeing as it's been over five years since the original, but a girl can dream roll
