I use IRC only to download anime episodes. The download frequency is pretty high, in no time the episodes are on my computer, dl via http hosters bothers me. Also I'm afraid of dl via torrent because of the upload share that is forbidden. I was captured few years ago with dl popular music via torrent and had to pay a fine to Sony Music.

ah gotlurk, fond memories.
I use it occasionally to download stuff. It's not hard to use and I only use a few functions (register/identify/join/search/find/get/msg commands), that's it.

I leave my client on in the background with a single channel up. It has uses, but I was never a fan of it.

I'm confused by the people that say they don't have enough time for it anymore since it would seem to me that the normal usage of IRC is to idle 98% of the time and only jump into the conversation as needed (e.g. maybe glance at it a few times a day and send a few messages).
Quote from TKS
Also, I don't understand people who say they "have no time". Do you read manga on your computer? Do you use FB and other social media? Give me a break.
Well, since it's an excuse it isn't meant for people to understand, I don''t really know exactly why I stopped using it, but certainly I don't have as much as free time as I used to, and a part of that free time was used to hang around some IRC channels. If I were get rid of the excuse I would simply say I just stopped using it and don't have enough motivation to use it anymore.
@asdffdsa: I pretty much agree with all you say, I apologize for confusing you and I know I have no excuse!
@TKS: Yes, I read manga in my computer, yes, I use Facebook. And then, open your hands and be ready to receive your break, here it goes! (/me sends a maybe awaited or maybe not break for TKS)

I only use it to get IRC only releases like RedHawk's Beelzebub.

I suppose technically I still use irc, since justin.tv uses some poor, shitty custom version for their chat window.

I know. I loved Opera with its built in everything. It was a bummer when IRC got cut, and it was depreciated way before that.

It's pretty sad to see this decline of IRC knowledge/usage. I use it to communicate in scanlation groups but it's also a lot of fun just to talk to people. Communities built around groups are great and the real-time conversations in IRC make it feel more personal.

I'm still using it everyday. Although I just idle. But in IRC, there's a lot of game that can be played

Yes, it's the one with why people can read lots of manga but not scanlate any. They don't got time.
So what would people do if suddenly all online readers die and no group is allowed to distribute manga on their sites so they move to irc only releases?
(I hope it happens soon )

It kinda died when online readers gained ground. You see, there was no need for it anymore.
