Poets Of The Fall and Coldplay. Love 'em both something fierce.

Arcade Fire is one of my favorite bands right now. Not usually too into indie music, but this band is just fantastic. So original, and their music is always very emotional and meaningful. Definitely makes me feel good whenever I listen to it. For anyone who's interested, sample, sample and sample.
Rush is my favorite 70s band. I've always thought they've been kind of underrated. They experiment with their music and style, are incredible technical players, and yet still write catchy hard rock and progressive songs that are listenable and don't alienate audiences (unlike some other prog bands *cough*pinkfloyd*cough*). If anything about them is alienating, it would probably be vocalist Geddy Lee's shrill (but still impressive) voice. Oh, and they're amazing live. sample, sample, sample, sample, sample, and sample.
Tool is one of the deepest bands that I've ever listened to, both musically and lyrically. Very different from any of their 90s (or 2000s) contemporaries, and one of the few metal bands that can be justifiably described as art rock. Their lyrics range from being deeply emotional to bitingly funny. They've definitely improved their playing and songwriting abilities since they got big in the 90s, getting increasingly more progressive (and less angry). Each of their albums is a guaranteed masterpiece, partly due to the fact that they take their sweet time, releasing a product every four or five years. sample, sample, sample, and sample. Oh, and make sure you enjoy the trippy weirdness of their music videos.
Iron Maiden is the greatest heavy metal band of all time, hands down. They're the guys that got me into "real" metal, and are a perfect representation of the over-the-top, fantasy-influenced lyrics, technical skill, and pure badassery that have made metal what it is. People will say Metallica, Black Sabbath, or Judas Priest are the greatest metal bands. They're wrong. Maiden is the only one of those bands that has stuck to pure, unhindered heavy metal awesomeness throughout their entire career, and who are STILL churning out the metal goods to this day. sample, sample, sample, sample, sample, and sample.
Soundgarden, the great hope that the 90s weren't completely devoid of musical taste. Their metal-influenced sound was a huge influence on the grunge movement, which this band gets unfairly lumped into. Their sound transcends grunge music, with stellar musicianship, great songwriting, and the incredible vocal talents of leading man Chris Cornell. sample, sample, and sample.
Those are probably my top five, but there are several other bands that I would probably consider my favorites, such as Led Zeppelin, Opeth, Queen, The White Stripes, and System of a Down. Oh, and the "My Favorite Band That Nobody's Heard Of" award goes to the great King's X.

Aria
Manowar
Helloween
Stratovarius
Blind guardian
Rhapsody of fire
Gammaray

Rhapsody of fire
Gammaray
Arcade Fire most definitely.
Hey Rosetta!
Fleet Foxes
The Weakerthans
Mother Mother
Metric
Xavier Rudd
Regina Spektor
There's more that I cannot remember at the moment. I really like the folky stuff and any good song with thought-provoking lyrics.
