I'm Japanese, and I really enjoy OEL Manga. By that, I mean American, Canadian, or European mangaka that take a sincere look at Japanese culture and apply it to their surroundings. Things like "Dramacon", "Megatokyo", "Return to Labyrinth", "Scott Pilgrim", "Powerpuff Girls Doujinshi","Thad's World Destruction: Before Destruction" or Heaven Sent Gaming's other stuff like "Reverie", etc.

I like reading it, it reminds me of the appreciation those mangaka have for my culture, and it helps me get an appreciation for their culture.

Maybe these:

Freaks' Squeele
Drowtales
Carciphona
Gunnerkrigg Court (not sure if inspired by manga, but it's my favorite webcomic)

If you liked "Powerpuff Girls Doujinshi" you could also try "Grim Tales" by the same author (Bleedman). Just a word of warning, from what I heard it's royally messed up.

Fisheye Placebo - Gorgeous art. Too bad the author's more focused on other things.

I second this! Although the art is a bit rough in the beginning, it gets a lot better after a while.

Other popular Japanese-inspired webcomics I have enjoyed (though to be honest, I don't really read webcomics anymore save for GC):

Edepth Angel
(I read this when I just started high school and put it on hold after a while so I'm not sure if it'll match your age demographic, but originally the art was completely done in pencil crayon up to around volume 4 and I really admired the amount of skill and work involved in making the pages look so beautiful ^_^)

Menage a 3 (Warning: It's R-rated) / Eerrie Cuties (SFW) by Pixie Trix Comix
(More webcomics I haven't read it a while, but the story and writing for both was really funny. They also have a bunch smaller spinoff comics if you're interested wink )

OEL I've enjoyed:

Nightschool
(This is by the same author/artist as Dramacon so of course the story is very good xD)

Soulless
(This was originally a Western novel series that won an award and is now being adapted to manga form by REM who was the winner of the first Kodansha International Manga award, so her art is really beautiful too. Recommended if you like strong female leads in Victorian supernatural steampunk setting)

Maximum Ride
(This is another popular Western novel series that got adapted into a manga. However, I haven't actually read this since it's aimed at young adults, but my younger brother really enjoys the series)

Edit.

If you're also interested in Japanese-inspired animation, feel free to ask as well~ wink
