This might be a weird one, but have you ever heard/read manga about personified kanji characters? I've tried looking for something of this kind, but - unexpectedly - nothing came up.

It's an anime though, but its the closest I could think of...
It's about this guy that can use the characters someones name is made out of to create weapons. Or something like that... It might also be something like their true nature that he uses/draws out, it's kind of complicated...

midnightloon: I've read Fushigi Yuugi quite a while ago, so I don't remember much of it, but I don't really see how it fits the description.. Could you please elaborate a bit?

Maybe I misread the request. But from what I remember the warriors in Fushigi Yuugi are born with the characters for the stars on them and once said symbol is seen they take on that name.

Or maybe you meant something like Alice 19th
