I used to be fascinated by School Shootings/Massacres. Not in a morbid way, but I just found them really interesting.

What, in your opinion, is the worst shooting/massacre out there? Not because of amount of deaths / wounded, but maybe because of the reasons. Something that you just fail to grasp, and makes you think for a long time. Those that really attract your attention. Again, not morbid. XD

I gotta say, before Virginia Tech, I thoughtColumbine was the one that I just couldn't stop being interested about. I did a project on the Columbine shootings around 2 years ago, and did intense amount of research on it. I saw countless of clips, and the live footage of the cafeteria remains amongst one of those videos I just can't get out of my head.

When I read about their reasons, videos, and diary entries, I just DIDN'T know what to think. o_o These guys seemed happy. Why would they do this? Were they bored? I know one of the guys had forgotten to take some of his pills or something and it's a theory that him getting off his medication might've caused that. BUT what about his friend?

The way they killed also... I just don't understand. They were out to kill over 400 people at first [a plan that failed when the bombs malfunctioned], and I'm sure they could've managed that even without that [they had the whole school in their hands].

But they seemed to slack off. Why so? I'm not saying I wished more people died, but they seemed to just wander around the school after the whole library thing for minutes before finally killing themselves. Were they looking for something? What were they doing? We'll never know.

Of course, after I heard of Virginia Tech, my first reaction was "Fuck, ANOTHER one?". Remember the links of school shootings that happened in September-October 2006? There was at least one shooting a week. -_-

Of course, Virginia Tech struck me. ;o; It sucks. The guy might've had problems but... urgh. >_<;

JDGDG

Enough about that. xP

What's your overall thought on these school shootings?

Columbine, hands down. Just cuz it was so unexpected and it was basically the first one. (the first one to get a lot of attention, anyway) Plus it was a highschool, so the people killed were probly mostly underage.

You know, I don't think it was supposed to be a competition. Who cares which is worst. I don't care who can be the most violent

Also, I attend Virginia Tech, and was a student last year as well. Obviously the shooting there would be most poignant to me. But that doesn't mean any other school violence isn't just as bad.

I was actually right there at the Virginia Tech thing and even though there was some crazy guy with guns shooting people, it was just the civilians that made the shooting a big deal. To tell the truth, Columine was a lot worse. They didn't release the students in Blacksburg High School and Middle School and all the many elementary schools but it was really just overreacting on the public school's side. The only real danger was on the college campus which was almost next door the my house. Yeah it sucked for the people who had family killed but they didn't need to go and hold a candle light vigil for it and give the families ass loads of money. Columbine was crazy shit and VTech was like a match right next to the hell of Columbine.

Kudos to you. =o

Well media and locals like exaggerating. ^^; Not really all that surprised.

One of the Columbine guys' birthday was Sept 11th, and in one of their diary entries, they were talking about hijacking a plane and crashing it into the Empire State / WTC [don't remember which one]. Coincidence? Or maybe everyone just hates the states. bigrazz *gets shot*

The fact that there were TWO people in Columbine also got me interested. Brings a whole new meaning to "Friends forever".

I beg to differ.

The most dangerous kind of people are those that are genuinely frustrated with something, but this doesn't actually make them any less human. Since I need to end my break and get back to studying for exams I'll skip the explanation since I figure most of you can figure out what I mean yourselves.

Anyways how about we stop comparing the shootings, I mean frankly I'm pretty sure that this thread held the purpose of discussing the motives and thoughts of the shooters, not the body count. Besides frankly its pretty bloody obvious that the shooters weren't actually trying to kill the most number of people, cause frankly they could have easily killed more people with easy to obtain or make explosives. I view what they did more along the lines of lighting yourself on fire in front of a large group of people as to jumping off a bridge, in that it is more a cry for help and attention then it was an attempted massacre (whether the individual in question knows it themself).

VTech was more mellow than Columbine in all ways but for me it was hell cuz they locked us in our classrooms in the Middle school for 5 more hours than usual. We got lunch that day but it looked like army rations and everybody had that aura around them. It was like they were all forced into a bomb shelter or something but when I got home I was sad to see my dad was still alive.

Yeah, it's not a nice thing to think about your father but he's so evil he might as well have just started shooting everybody along with the shooter.

I didn't mean worst as in WORST body count....

But mostly about the shooters and the whole reason and crap behind the shootings.

And yes, Nins, that's the purpose of this thread. >_> thx for pointing it out

Why exactly are we arguing about school shootings?

My sentiments exactly. Why on a manga forum?...(Not really "arguing" though)
