HELL YES!
I have been living in Japan for something like 5 months and I still have a few months ahead... Basically I will be living here for about a year .

so
- Ok their food is "special" .... They really don't eat enough vegetable.... I'm not one of those crazy vegans but really they should try to include more vegetable in their diet...
They have the world greatest life expexctancy yet...
So I guess it has something to do with the unbelievable amount of seafood they eat...Except it's not exactly the same price than ramen ....at least if you go in restaurant . So if you don't know how to cook japanese ingredient then it's really demanding for your body....
- Ok I always have the feeling to be a gaijin ... But to what extent am I fantazing?
I mean I never heard "we don't want you in our country" or "go home"(while you can easily hear that in other civilized countries) ....Japanese are far too polite for that. Sure sometimes there are weird reaction but well in any countries of the world strangers raise suspicion...
Except in japan if you aren't of the asian type you "look " like a stranger . So it eases the suspicion .
There are a lot of japanese that are more than kindly with me BECAUSE I'm a gaijin.... And Japan remains one of the most tight country when it comes to curtesy and politeness.
Last thing I like to be a gaijin : I can take the best of the 2 worlds . Japanese rules don't exactly apply to me because they suppose I don't know them and in the same time I can discover their culture through their mangas , their konbini , their karaoke , the seifun 18 kippu , etc....I'm not sure I'd like japan if I were japanese and I don't like that much my own country .So being a gaijin in japan is cool! (at least as long as you have money roll eyes )
- Japan is not that crowded.... Another fantasy.... I'm currently living in the neighboorhoud of Nagoya , I've been to Hokkaido,etc...and I can ensure you there are a lot of really nice place in japan . By the way japan is the 3rd country of the world when it comes to the ratio between forest and land.Sure Tokyo is pretty lively but I prefer Tokyo over Barcelona. And anyway all the metropole are crowded by very definition . And there aren't a town in the whole world more clean than a japanese town except maybe singapour.... No gums sticking to the shoes , no dog shits , no plastic bag ,etc...it's just mesmerizing how well disciplined they can be .

So it's definetly a country worth to live in .
I' m not saying I will stay here forever , I'm too much of a vagrant for that and it's likely I would be sick of it if I had to stay here forever but if I can stay here for another couple of years HELL YES!

I wouldn't want to live in a place getting more popular with gai-jins by the year, all wanting to move there. The place is already overpopulated as is and the islands of Japan won't last at this rate. As a Canadian, I detest humidity, so I can't see myself liking the summers there.

Sure, I'd like to visit since I like the language and culture, but I'm uncertain about wanting to live there.

i would not want to live there, but i would really like to visit, if only for the feeling of beeing completley alone in a country where no one speaks your language. also, the idea of beeing a gaijin actually have a strange appeal to me, being completley different and all that. allthough i would probably be extremely depressed after a week or two. still, it would probably be a good experience...
and i have always loved big cities, so i would probably like tokyo..

No, I wouldnt want to live there.. I think its not really a place for me. I love Europe with all my heart and I like where I live right now. Another reason for not moving to Japan is because I would seperate myself from my friends and family, there is no way that they would even consider going to live there, except for one friend of mine. I dont really know the language either, maybe a few basic things, like introducing myself and so on, but not really knowing the language inside out. If I were to lose my way and ask Japanese people for directions, (and thats really hard, because an english speaking japanese is almost extinct) I'm sure I still wouldnt find my way. There would be a huge language barrier and it would take a while to overcome that. Also, I'm sure that my personality differs alot from Japanese, which is also a great obstacle when in a country such as Japan. Oh, and one more thing, I wouldnt know what kind of food to buy, because I cant read those damn labels on those products! I can only recognize noodle cups, and I dont really want to eat that for the rest of my life.

Japan isn't really place for me, I like Korea much better. smile wink grin Mainly because Japan is like some new trend in western countries and luckily most of people aren't that interested in Korea, atleast I think so..

Anyway it's awfull living in a big city like soul or tokyo, especially when it's time when everyone comes home from work or school. It's horrible. none
Luckily I live in country side of South-Korea.. Well I dunno if I can say I'm lucky, sometimes I really hate this place and sometimes it's really nice.

So there, I do not want to live in a Japan even if I had a chance, maybe I could visit that place or someting like that, but I'll let those japanese people live in their island in peace without me. biggrin
But I guess Asia is still Asia, was it Korea, China or Japan. eyes

BTW Korean food is better than chinese or japanese. bigrazz

Right now I would live anywhere but here, it's the worst. But I've always wanted to go to Japan, though probably not in the city.

Yes. *instant reply*

There's no reason NOT to! (except for the pedophiles, bad air, over-population, and over-priced items)

Hm...
Now that I think about it...I'd rather just move there for a year or two. Buy a shit-load of clothes, learn some hard-core Japanese then move back to Canada.

Ya I totally just got back from a trip to Japan last week!!!! Totally awesome and would love to live there. The atmosphere is so nice and culture is so polite (if not passive aggressive) and the streets are all clean. I was in Osaka and people don't even chain their bikes up in some neighborhoods cuz no one will stealz it.

The only thing is I don't think I could ever get a job there. I don't speak well enuf and who's gonna hire a gaijin to work in their corp?

Still, a great place IMO and would love to live thar!

Sometimes I get the urge to just pack everything up, move to a totally new place, and start over, and Japan is about as far from where I am as I could get, so sometimes moving there sounds pretty good. laugh

The idea of being a gaijin doesn't really bother me. Here, there's no reason for me to be an outsider, and yet I've always felt out of place and had the feeling that I *shouldn't* really feel out of place. In Japan, at least I'd have a reason for feeling out of place and no expectation of *not* feeling like an outsider. [Btw I'm 5'10", dark blonde hair, green eyes, so no chance whatsoever of blending in.] eyes

Of course it's highly unlikely that I ever will pack up & start over, since I own a house here, pretty much like where I live, & wouldn't want to leave my family.

:3 Noooo way. I would definitely not live in Japan! I already visited once for a couple of days. Have relatives there but that's not the point. I might end up going back this summer because my Dad has a school reunion there. Egh. But... No. No...Noooo thank you!

The nice parts of Japan:

+ Nice and clean (in most areas). Yes, you don't find a single piece of gum on the streets. Smokers pick up their stomped cigs and deposit them in their respective bins (unlike NYC where smokers just leave them everywhere. *sighs*).
+ Nice food.
+ Serene beauty of nature.
+ Dog onsen and human onsens. Wait, I don't like onsens... >_> I just like the food from the onsen!
+ Lots of ferris wheels.
+ Shinkansen and JR trains.
+ Odaiba... Cats Livin'... Interesting science museums.
+ Sony Building.
+ Ghibli Museum in Mitaka
+ DisneySea and Land
+ Vending machines
+ Toilets!! Whahaha..

Negs.

- Expensive products. Expensive rent.
- Won't have access to manhwa. Especially, Monday Boy (a.k.a. Moon Boy)
- Not really afraid of any kind of packed sardine train as I'm use to it in NYC, but to hear of perverts on the train... Eh...
- Different culture. I wouldn't be use to the idea of splashing myself with water before getting into the bath. I like my showers. Baths, not so much anymore.
- Language barrier. Although I can read some, not proficient enough for being out on my own.
- The gaijin-barrier. Even if I could easily blend in and know that the gaijin label won't go away with Japan, I just won't be comfortable with it at all. I always read japantoday.com and wonder what goes on. >_>
- Squat toilets in public bathrooms. They're common in Taiwan too but.. agh. Running into one on the royal palace property wasn't fun.

Therefore, I'm satisfied enough as to where I am. roll Manga and anime access won't count for me. My tri-state area has access to all parts of Asian culture. I also wish Koryo bookstore carried manhwa. Ahhh..
