Tbh i dont really like a manga when it includes romance with childhood friend, because i think its kind of impossible? Maybe its because i dont have any childhood friend who becomes a hot guy after 10 years or something like in some shoujo manga biggrin biggrin

Theres no one around my age in my neighborhood, and Im not keeping contact with my friends in elementary school or middle school, lol i dont even have many guy friends to begin with. so i can say for sure i wont meet some hot guy who turned out to be my childhood friend.
thats why manga about romance with childhood friend seems so unreal for me.

So how about you guys?

I like childhood friend centered manga but yup, it's kind of weird at the same time.

I too have no contacts with my childhood friends, maybe one but that didn't go well.
And I have no romantic feeling or whatsoever with them. More like childhood playmates and that's that.

For some maybe they have encountered stuff like that but generally...do people really end up with their childhood friends? Nope.

Mangas just tend to romanticize everything, haha unrealistic exactly. Well it's fun to read those kind unless it goes overboard with extreme nonsensse logic. eyes

My childhood friend went the opposite direction after 10 years (from good-looking to unrecognizably obese and even dropped out of school). So, sadly, no childhood friend like in mangas....

Yes, I do have childhood friend.
And yes, he is hot, have good brain and is dependable. What's more, he's even transferred to my high school at year 3 after 5 years separation. Alas, he ended up with the school no.1 beauty and not me. XD

I guess those scenario came from real life experience after all.

I personally can't stand the childhood friend trope.

It's not something I can relate to and the stories are generally pretty boring to me.
I know people I've been around since elementary school (I'm in college now) but the idea of imagining romance with them would be like - in my eyes- imagining romance with one of my siblings.

In the end, I guess I just personally find it to be a bit weird and generally unrealistic.

I read a lot of psychological or shoujo manga for some reason. Preferably not mixed together.

I moved around a lot as a kid, courtesy of the United States military. With only my cruddy flip cellphone, infrequent e-mails, and Neopets at my disposal as a kid, I rapidly lost contact with the friends I made in elementary school after one big move from Alaska to Texas. I still keep in touch - and occasionally hang out - with a few friends I've had since I was 12, though (I'm 21 now).

Honestly the childhood friend trope irks me a bit, because I get jealous. It'd be nice to share early childhood memories with people besides family.

I guess everyone here is a fan of Tonari no Atashi!!! lol

I had a lot of friends from 5th and 6th grade I grew up with and went onto high school with. However, we went into different circles by the end of HS. When we did see each other I think we felt like some sort of happiness/nostalgia. Like, look how far we've come and woow it's nice to see you!! No romance.

There were a couple of boys that I had known since 5th and 6th that liked me in 9th grade but I didn't have any interest in them. I think they were holding on to middle school feelings as a way to cope with the craziness of starting something as foreign and scary as high school or maybe start some sort of high school debut with a girlfriend lol

For me it was hard to see them in a romantic way when I had seen them go through puberty and seen them at their most immature points lol I would say the same thing about me. I felt like I had a BAD attitude in middle school so the fact that they somehow still thought I was cool into high school kind of surprises me. However, like I said before, I think they were just holding onto middle school feelings as a coping mechanism and they soon got over it and moved onto other things.

In the end, I married my guy friend I met in 10th grade. We didn't date in HS. We didn't even see each other all that much through out HS but every time we did meet it was a lot of fun and we got on really well. He kept in contact with me once we graduated HS and were in college (different colleges in the same city) and we met up a couple of times. The second time we really hit it off and there the love story started smile

I think it's hard to stay in love with someone you fell for or met at such a young age. People change A LOT...so the person you fell for at age 8 or w/e is going to be really different at age 16. Also, let's say you didn't like the person right away but grew up closely from age 8-16. Even if they become a lot cooler when they are older...it's hard to forget the person they were during those awkward transformative years so the odds of falling in love all of a sudden I think are very rare.

Maybe the whole didn't like you at age 8...didn't see you for 8 years....meet you again at age 16, fall in love is the most believable. But only if the memories of the person of age 8 aren't of someone impossibly icky lol And if by a miracle the person at age 16 is wonderful amazing.

Oh! And I just remembered. There was one guy I met at 4th grade I liked a lot. He liked me too! But he moved away at the end of the year. For a lot of middle/high school I dreamed of meeting again like in a manga but it never happened. Better that it didn't. What are the odds I would have still liked him? Not very likely! He would have probably been a completely different person than what I was expecting. Better it stay a nice memory.

I also moved a lot, but for different reasons! So I don't even know if the friends I met from age 0 - 10 are dead or alive... And I've forgotten most of them, and care about none. The friend I've known longest is from fifth grade, and that's a girl. I'm a hetero girl. So, yeeeep, no romance there. I hope we stay in touch though. Most of my childhood friends since fifth grade have moved away, and we lost touch with each other. I'm curious about them, but I don't really miss them.

Since I come from a small town, most of the friends I know were born there, raised there, and going to college near the town. People have known each other since early childhood, but honestly, it's nothing like manga. Manga idealizes things a lot---long-term romance in reality tends to occur in college and later, when people have found a sense of self.

But yep, I'm also pissed at the childhood-friend trope because I get jealous!!!
