I find Loveless to be severely, ridiculously overrated. How anyone can stand to follow 8 volumes and counting of a story so vague, with such utterly unlikable and unsympathetic characters, is beyond me. Because it looks pretty...I guess.

But I continue to follow Bleach like an abused yet still-loyal dog every week, so what do I know?

I don't think people are overrating those manga cuz in my point of view there is no such thing as crap being published. And yet I think that either the manga got overrated or not it's still the work of the people who spend most of their time on doing them with somewhat low salary. I have high respect to people who working hard to think of those stories and make them into those manga... Whether or not other people like my opinion, I still think it's unfair for those who working on those manga to be judged. The purpose of manga is to entertain people, to satisfy the mangaka's dreams, to teach readers the lesion behind the story, to make people gain their hope and believe, to help people know there are such people who using their own emotions, sweats, tears and frustration to make in such things called manga...
I think I'm a little bit emotional but I can't help it... saying such things regardless the efforts the mangaka putting into their works, the "soul", the thoughts... Even though there are some manga that don't even worth reading, they are still the work that count. What will you do if your work that you put a lot of effort into be judged by people and not even appreciate the time, the idea that you made? I think it's up to you to decide whether or not doing so...

Srsly ppl, the art is epic but the plot is kinda 'OFF'!!
I've decided to stop reading the chapters cuz some of the chapters are not supposed to be in that plot cuz it's so DETACHED with everything!

You want examples? then watabout the whole 'Curry Cook-off'...the Fenching..(in between the Indian Prince arc..) and the whole cross-dressing (in between jack the ripper arc)... there's some more 'wasteful' chapters which are arguably FUN to read but you will eventually realised what's the point of having these to go with the main plot? or are there any 'PLOT' to start with??

and yea. Sebastian's hawt but.. what's the point of the manga? Is it juz bout him being a Good..Kickass-Perfect butler? or is it revolve the Phantomhive family n that Devil curse??

Godchild is a better manga than this..

It isn't just about the mangaka's hardwork..but it also depend on what the mangaka give to their readers.

Some mangas aren't deserve to be "LOVE" or adored. They basically follow the same typical cliches in the mainstream manga. I am so sick and offended by the stereotypical characters and plots happening in some of the 'overrated' smutty shoujos out there.E.g Shinjo Mayu's works...there are lots of negative reviews in her works and YET, some of these mangaka make the same mistake all over again when they have given room for improvements. Some mangas even degrade our identity as readers.. (i don't have to point out the obvious since we all read mangas here.)

Is that even considered our fault..as people who read and judge their published works?

wow hermit-chan thats a very long post. well i dont put too much thinkin in2 those sorter things.. whats good whats bad. waste of time.. for me i jus follow a manga since it started good even if its not as great now.. the prolonged and dragged.. borin story. eg. naruto and bleach...

all i think is most ppl r jus waitin 2 see the ending. nt every chapter seems to b as good or enjoyable as before. but we jus carry on readin it to see what happens nex. or what happens in the end. its like eating.. once u eat u dun stop. even though it isnt the most delicious food u'v tasted. u carry on till u finish ur meal.

many overated all were great mangas to begin with. not sayin its still as great. but u kno not every1 is superb or so smart to keep comin up wit good ideas. the beginning will always b good since its sumtin new that no1 has ever read. but as it goes on it tends to b borin since the whole new idea has become old school.

overrated r all those long dragged manga's. or manga's that seem to go off track and waste time.

it seems ppl 4get to mention air gear. besides that i think the usual naruto and bleach.

I agree with these; Ouran High Host Club and Ichigo 100% especially.
They're both on so many recommended lists; but I didn't really enjoy them at all...
But that's just my opinion!

Most people who work hard on things like manga, usually like having some feedback even if it is negative, there are things that can be used to develop themselves.

The most overrated manga in my opinions are naruto and Vampire Knight. I really don't understand the hype for Vampire Knight its not really particularly exciting. Naruto... well I don't hate it but the fanbase just angers me.

That would probably get rid of a lot of memebers.

Then I'll finally become a moderator! Or even... site administrator.

I'll have to put my plan into action quickly.

I thought Yuu Watase's works were bad (not just overrated but really bad) like more than 10 years ago and still think so. Glad that I am not alone on this board. And yes, Loveless is overrated. I agree that the story is vague and the characters are uninteresting.

And I think Gantz is really overrated. It bores me and I never see the appeal of it. Maybe the appeal is that "I am reading gore so I'm cool type of immature mentality."

Not everything liked by many people is overrated. FMA, DNAngel, Claymore, etc are actually fun to read. I wouldn't comment on them. But I just don't see the point of something like Gantz.

Death Note, on the other hand, is well drawn and executed with enough amount of creativity. It's far better than the shounen crap out there and gives manga and anime a good name even to those in the public who are not into anime and manga. You can't say it's bad simply because you don't like a plot with a killing note book.

And yes, Vampire Knight, as well as Skip Beat, is overrated. The art is good but that's it. Those shoujo titles are harmless passtime for YOUNG readers when they have nothing to do. I can't get into them but that doesn't mean I think they are bad. It's just that they don't deserve that much rave. They are still better than really crappy and overrated shoujo manga like Shinjo Mayu's or the Midori-Kun one.

I agree with the above Kuroshitsuji comments. The going nowhere plot sucks. Damn the art is superb. But that alone still cannot make me continue reading it.

Well, I agree with everybody here on Naruto and Inuyasha...although I use to like both of those series, it can get boring....

Um...since a lot of people have already covered a lot of the newer mangas/animes how about some older ones like DBZ, Pokemon, and Sailor Moon?

Although I like Vampire Knight, it is annoyingly popular and Death Note people just bug me. I mean its a cool series, but EVERYone seems to be walking around with a big "L" shirt on and it drives me crazy . (maybe its just because I'm a FMA fan...although it bugged me when scary people were wearing FMA merchandise as well...maybe its the people and the the manga/anime )
