I can'y really express all that i want to in the topic title, so i'll explain it better here. I was wondering wether it would be okay to just watch the anime adaptations of these manga, then continue on to reading the manga where the anime left off when i catch up to the most recent anime episode. This is what i've currently done with Naruto, Beach, Black Lagoon, Samurai X, Guyver, and Slam Dunk, and it's worked fine for me.

Another way of putting it would be me asking, wether i would miss anything if i didn't read the currently animated parts of the manga and just continued after it. I i will miss something, then i'll read it as well. Which was the case with Berserk, TenTen, and Claymore.

Anyway guys, i'll wait for your views the manga/anime in discussion are Reborn!, D. Gray Man and Kekkaishi. I really want to pick these ones up.

I don't read or watch Reborn, so I can't give you advice on that one.

Read the manga instead:
Kekkaishi - The manga scanlations are further than the fansubs. The only advantage with the anime is that this series is an action one. Seeing the fight scenes animated is nice but not needed since there isn't a lot of hand-to-hand combat.

D. Gray-man - I can rant on and on about how filler-tastic the anime is, but I'll save you the trouble. The manga is much better imo.

Normally I only read the manga (anime drawings are hardly ever as good).
I can only comment on D.Gray-man cuz its the only of the above that I both read and watched... And I still have to say, read the manga. For one thing, the manga is further ahead than the anime, and for another, the anime is EVEN MORE draggy than the manga. You'll be looking at the same fight scene for many episodes. So unless you like that...
However, since you're asking if you'll miss anything watching the anime, I'd have to to say no, you won't miss anything. The D.gray-man anime only added stuff... storyline otherwise follows manga strictly.

I'me reading and watching Reborn, and same as D.Gray-man, it only add thing, you shouldn't miss anything in the anime. But the anime is pretty censored, and you wouldn't see any blood .......

imo, it's not draggy as d.gray-man ....

Tnx for the reply guys, one of the big reasons why i ask if i will miss anything in the manga by watching the anime of the parts that have been animated is the time. Although i would love to still be able to read the mangaka's official work, reading things that you already know seems to be a waste for me. I could probably spend it reading other manga as well.

With your comments I've decided to watch the anime adaptation and then read the manga from the part the anime left off. And just continuously follow both the manga and anime if their both still ongoing.

If anyone would still like to comment or feel like i should change my mind and still reread the manga, feel free to voice it here. tnx again

I just wanted to add, that i've only decided to do the above mentioned for d. gray man and reborn only. I'm still not sure about kekkaishi since no one commented on it yet, please do if you can.

But I did mention Kekkaishi. My comment is right after my little heading, "read the manga instead."

Anyway, I really recommend reading the manga instead of watching the anime for D. Gray-man. The anime just has too many fillers for my liking (I skipped thirty episodes and didn't miss a thing). And another downside is that it has been censored a little. I really wouldn't bother with watching the anime.

I like watching anime and reading manga so I don’t discourage ppl from wanting to watch anime that base on manga and stuff. But here my bias opinion and that is the manga is better when it come to detail information and ending. So after watching the anime you should read the manga because the anime often cut short in ending and they’re mostly not very good (the anime ending).

D.Gray-man: (reading it and watching it) The anime is decent enough follow the manga most of the time, but there are filler episode. (with me assuming that they did that for more screen time for minor character.)

Hitman Reborn!: (reading it and watching it) Right now the anime is in a filler episodes/arc I believe. All I know is that it not part of the manga. The anime was decent in following the manga but they switch with some of the chapter episode that supposes to be in the beginning but they put after the “ring battle”.

Kekkaishi: (reading it, will watch it) –no comment since I’m only reading for now

You definitely want to read the D.Gray-Man manga. You'll save yourself a lot of time (as someone mentioned, there are fillers from episode 14 or so all the way up to the 50s), and it's ongoing - almost at ninety episodes and only at ~chapter 120. If you want to save time, just read the manga, since you're going to be reading part of it anyway. It's just better in every way.

(Actually, the anime did add/change things - a couple of filler arcs came from the novels. At least one of those novel stories was completely changed, though.)

Let's say i decide to watch the anime adaptations of all of them first? Do you guys still think i should reread the manga from the start after that? or should i just continue with the rest of the manga?

Don't watch the anime of D.Gray-Man first. Or at all. :3 ...but definitely read the entire manga of that one. I'd still say read it first. It'll make things less confusing when you do catch up with the manga (to know what events did/did not happen). You'd probably like it better that way, too.

Either way - READ IT ALL.

lol i read all three so heres my take on it:
Reborn!: well for this one it's really up to you the manga has an surprisingly long daily life arc which is used for character introductions and such. and a good amount of them have been chopped up and used as fillers for the anime. in the anime's case since it cut it into segments here and there that gave room for it to get straight to the action later on. but the downfall of the anime to me is that i think it's a bit censored in some of the stuff in it, though it's really little, but stuff like that is pet peeve to me.
D.Grayman: this one is like everyone says the anime is filled with fillers here and there from time to time too. and slow to progress unlike the manga.... well to an extent when you think about certain arcs.
Kekkaishi: i think the manga might have a leg up on this one as well since the story is still progressing and the anime had some minor changes or major depending on how you look at with some of the characters and plot.

I havent seen the Kekkaishi anime yet, but I can say that roughly the first couple volumes are pretty average as far as entertainment and sometimes downright boring, but after that it becomes freaking amazing (so dont drop it just because of that). The anime might make the beginning a bit less boring, but after it starts to get interesting in the anime, I would probably switch to the manga.

But I havent seen the anime before, so youll have to ask around to see if the beginning is any better than the manga.s
