Ya dig? Like Bob Dylan, The Band, etc. Most of the stuff I know is folk-blues, so let us show madd appreciation for traditional folk music.

Yeah, on and off... I guess. Not my absolute fave genre, but if I like what I'm hearin, it's good enough. Guys like Dylan and Jack Elliot are alright, but I tend to lean to British, Celtic and more recently, Balkan Folk (thanx bedob).

I like some newer stuff as well, especially Travis, but they probably ain't "pure" folk to the purists (like I care).

I can't say it's a genre I have lots of knowledge about, though.

I wouldn't know much of folk other than folk-rock/blues of the likes of Dylan, Band, Neil Young and early Leonard Cohen. Though the majority of them the largest folk element would be the lyrics/singing...

Well, Dylan is one of my gods. I also really like Neil Young (Harvest...)
The Band, yeah, why not, but hammond organs piss me off.

I've been exploring the wonderful worlds of Nick Drake, Phil Ochs and Tim Buckley for months now, and yet I discover diamonds every single day.

What about folk music nowadays ? Do you know some ?
I'm desperately looking for stuff like Bright Eyes, but I'm about to give up.

And what about Cat Power ? biggrin

I personally love folk music and all folk inspired modern music.

As a huge fan of the Bright Eyes, I'd recommend Okkervil River, The Decemberists, Great Lakes Myth Society, Fleet Foxes, Wolf Parade, and Frog Eyes to name a few.

Dude, what's wrong with a Hammond Organ?

And modern day folk stuff that I know is mainly folk blues, like Keb Mo, Mofro, and Ben Harper.

Dunno, that's creepy.

BUT! I like it for many many many songs (Like a Rolling Stone, Rising Sun by the Animals... eek ). It's just that for the Band I think it could have been better without it, or less. So I should have said "their Hammond Organ pisses me off".

IDK, the hammond organ on Chest Fever is pretty epic.

Ry Cooder also has some awesome folk song.
