U.S. Manga Guide Author Makes Cameo in Fairy Tail Manga

bozou writes: *Artist MASHIMA Hiro drew Jason Thompson, the manga section editor of Otaku USA magazine and the Eisner-nominated author of Manga: The Complete Guide, into a cameo in a September installment of Mashima's Fairy Tail fantasy adventure manga. The two had met when Thompson had interviewed MASHIMA Hiro at Comic-Con International 2008 in San Diego in July. After the interview, a Del Rey staffer asked Thompson for photographs and said that Mishima would like to draw Thompson into his manga.

In installment 104 of the manga, Thompson appears as the excitable "Weekly Sorcerer reporter Jason" who has come to interview the members of the Fairy Tail mage guild. However, he all but ignores the heroine Lucy and unintentionally rubs the main male character, Natsu, the wrong way — to slapstick comic effect. [sitelink=publishers.html?id=207]Del Rey[/sitelink] published the fourth volume of the manga in North America last month.

2 Crows Manga Spinoffs to Launch in Young Champion Mag

bozou writes: *Two spinoff series based on TAKAHASHI Hiroshi's popular Crows fighting manga will launch in [sitelink=publishers.html?id=9]Akita Shoten[/sitelink]'s Young Champion magazine. The announcements were made in the first issue of [sitelink=publishers.html?id=9]Akita Shoten[/sitelink]'s Young Champion Otoko spinoff magazine on September 30. Manga artist NAITO Kenichiro will adapt Takashi Miike's hit Crows Zero prequel movie back into the manga format. NAITO Kenichiro will be working off Shogo Muto's film script and TAKAHASHI Hiroshi's original concepts, and his Crows Zero manga will launch in this year's 50th issue of Young Champion on November 13. Not coincidentally, a second Crows Zero movie has been green-lit for 2009. The DVD of the first film will be distributed in North America by Media Blasters.

Drop manga artist SUZUKI Dai will serialize a new manga called Harumichi about Crows' main lead, Harumichi Bōya, starting next spring. Few details have been given besides the promotional blurb that indicates that Harumichi will confront Fujisuke, the most powerful man in a small village.

The original Crows manga ran for 26 volumes, and its sequel, Worst, has been published in English by [sitelink=publishers.html?id=208]Digital Manga Publishing[/sitelink].

New Poll - Favorite Genre (edited)

Yeah, it's a generic poll...All genres were taken from our [sitelink=genres.html]Genre[/sitelink] page, so if you don't know what a particular genre is, check that out. I realize that "doujinshi" doesn't really count as a genre, but whatever...
Some of you will be at odds with which genre to choose since I put up EVERY genre we have, so be decisive and click the button!

You're welcome to discuss your genres here:
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=8104

And in case you were wondering, this is actually the first time we repeated a poll. (The previous genre poll was...2005...)

As for all of you that voted in the beta recommendation system poll, thank you for your vote! We hope to develop that system better in the near future.

**[color=red]Edit: That sure was interesting, hahaha. Just to tell you guys, before I changed the poll, romance was beating yaoi (by about 20 votes)! Anyways, if you didn't know, I changed some of the options of the poll, and everyone gets to vote again~

I still think that several of the options don't count as "genres" really, but oh well.[/color]**

New Casshern Sins Series & Linebarrels of Iron Anime 1st Ep Adapted as Manga

bozou writes: *Casshern Sins, the October 1 remake of Tatsunoko Production's classic Shinzo Ningen Casshan action anime series, is getting a manga adaptation. TAKEI Masaki (original character designer of Immoral Sisters, Dragon Knight: The Wheel of Time) will launch the manga version in the December issue of [sitelink=publishers.html?id=87]Jive[/sitelink]'s Monthly Comic Rush magazine. The manga was announced in the current Comic Rush issue on September 26, and the December issue will actually ship on October 25.

The creators of the original Linebarrels of Iron manga have taken the unusual step of adapting the first episode of the anime version back into manga. SHIMIZU Eiichi and SHIMOGUCHI Tomohiro have been serializing Linebarrels of Iron (Kurogane no Linebarrel), a story about a boy who pilots a 21-meter-tall robot for a secretive conglomerate, in [sitelink=publishers.html?id=9]Akita Shoten[/sitelink]'s Champion Red magazine since 2004. To commemorate the October 3 premiere of the anime adaptation, SHIMIZU Eiichi and SHIMOGUCHI Tomohiro created a oneshot of Linebarrels of Iron in Weekly Shonen Champion, a magazine that caters to a younger audience than Champion Red. The oneshot, which appears in this year's 44th issue of Shonen Champion on Thursday, recreates the entire first episode of the anime version.
