How do I add a release, a group, an author...etc?

To add information to this site, you need to register first. Click here to register an account. After registering, visit the User CP by clicking "User CP" on the site menu to the right or by clicking here. Here, you will see the "My Control Panel" box. By reading and clicking the buttons you want, you can add releases, groups, series, and other things.

How can I help out?

You can help by registering and adding releases to our database (old and new), adding series info where it's missing, adding series, adding authors, adding publishers or correcting the existing information for any of the above.

I noticed that information for a release, group, series, author, publisher, etc is wrong. How do I fix that?

First, you must be registered and logged in. Try to edit the value by clicking on the "[Edit]" buttons that appear throughout the site. Here, it will ask you to upgrade your account if you have not done so yet. This is FREE. All this does is help us keep people who have no actual intention of editing the database out of our system. Just put the name of the series you want to update and submit the form. After an admin approves your request, you'll be upgraded, and you can edit all the series/etc that you like! Thanks for helping out the community!

For things that do not have an "[Edit]" button, you may fill out the Change Request form which you can find in your User CP or by clicking here.

How do I get more editing privileges?

By joining the site, you automatically have the ability right away to:

  • Add Releases
  • Add Scanlation Groups

If you want to add series, publishers, or mangaka (or edit their information), you will need to upgrade your account. Upgrading is free and only requires that you specify the series, publisher, or mangaka that you want to update. Click on any "[Edit]" link you see all over the series, publishers, or mangaka pages to see the request form.

How do I add a scanlation group?

First, be sure you have at least this information:

  • Group Name
  • At least one of the following: website, IRC channel, forum URL, Discord invite, Twitter, or Facebook page

A MangaDex group link link can substitute as a website. The following are not permitted: MangaDex user link, Batoto group/user link, Reddit username or subreddit, Ko-Fi, or Patreon.

If you qualify the above, go to the User CP and click "Add Group", or go there by clicking here. Fill out what information you have and leave the other fields blank. It will take some time for us to verify that your group exists, so please be patient!

Please note that we currently only accept English scanlation groups.

PS: A link to a manga reader site does not count.

How do I update the information of my scanlation group?

There are no "[Edit]" buttons for the group info pages, so you must fill out a Change Request form which you can find in your User CP or by clicking here. Just tell us the name of the group and changes you would like to make for that group.

How come there is no group info for <name of scanlation group>?

In most cases, this is a mistake, and we'd like you to tell us about it. In some special cases, though, we allow a group to not contain any group information. In these cases, you're on your own... There are plenty of resources out there if you look.

I have some manga-related news that I wish to share. How can I?

You can submit a Change Request form which you can find in your User CP or by clicking here. Just mention that you have a news submission and please include any original sources.

What kind of news is appropriate for the site?

As we are a series information and scanlation information site, we appreciate any information related to noteworthy events in the scanlation community (major groups disbanding, stolen translations, cease and desists), as well as licensing information and industry news. Basically, if what you're posting has wide reaching implications, past just a certain group or a certain manga series (depending on how popular it is), we would like to know about it!

How come my release wasn't approved?

There are a few possible reasons:

You didn't specify a group and instead placed a "?"
All releases must have an associated group that is in our database.

The release was fake
We dislike them as much as everyone else. Curse April Fools!

The release contained stolen translations
We do not like it when you take someone's work and claim it as your own, and we're pretty sure you wouldn't like it either.

The specified group does not exist in our database
We only allow releases to be posted (in most circumstances) by groups that exist in our database. You must add your group at the same time you add your new release, or before, so that we can verify that the release actually exists.

The specified group has no forum, website, or IRC channel
We require that all scanlation groups have some kind of information in our database besides just a group name.

The release was not in English
We currently only accept scanlations that are translated into English.

The "release" is a scanned volume from an English publisher
We are not allowing scanned volumes of English manga. These are not scanlations.

The doujinshi was not published
We will only be accepting doujinshi that are published and/or sold in stores (whether offline or online). A basic guideline would be that a release/series will only be approved if it can be found on http://www.doujinshi.org/. This means we'd be rejecting many of the shorter works, especially those from artists that exclusively post on http://www.pixiv.net/.

How come my series submission was not approved?

There are several possible situations:

The series was already in our database
Please check that the series you're trying to add isn't already there (but perhaps under a different name or spelled a little differently).

The series is not scanlated yet
This applies only to oneshots, doujinshi, novels, and other alternate media. By "scanlated," the release must exist in our database at MangaUpdates. Read this for more details:
http://www.mangaupdates.com/faq.html?cid=7#item49

The series is fan-made
We do not allow webcomics that are made by fans to be submitted as series on this site.

OEL Webcomics
We do not allow OEL webcomics to be listed on this site

OEL
We do not allow self-published OEL. OEL must be published in a physical form by a reputable company.

What kinds of Category Tags should I add to a series page?

When you are thinking about adding a category, first ask yourself if the category you are adding defines the series or commonly pops-up when describing it. If the tag seldom applies, please don't add it.

Example:
When thinking about the movie No Country for Old Men, what comes to mind? Hitman, Law Enforcement, Life or Death on a Coin Toss, Revisionist/Contemporary Western, Landscape Porn, Prominent Offscreen Death, Cattle Gun, etc... You don't normally think "Midnight Rendezvous in El Paso" even though that occurs one time in the film. In conclusion, only add prominent information that occurs within or about the series.

How come my release is dated incorrectly?

You can request us to change the date via a Change Request form which you can find in your User CP or by clicking here.

In the case where the day is only off by a single day, chances are that it's because of timezone differences. Please be aware that our servers run on USA Pacific Coast time. We will not change the date by a day just to match what it says on your website if you are located in a different timezone.
