New Poll - Say That Kawaii!
This new poll was contributed by qrf, who in fact made his first forum post by giving this suggestion. Simple enough poll, just choose the corresponding choice for your usage level of kawaii, moe, or any other anime/manga words.
It'll be interesting to see how many people choose the first and last choices...

You can discuss this new poll on our forums here:
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=8891

Previous Poll Results
Question: Preferred medium if all forms were available for your favorite series?
Choices:
Original language raw (Japanese, Chinese, Korean, etc: volume / magazine / online) - votes: 539 (5.8%)
Scanlations (in any language you like) - votes: 4760 (51.2%)
Printed volume (in any language you like) - votes: 3788 (40.8%)
Printed magazine (in any language you like, ex: USA Shonen Jump) - votes: 204 (2.2%)
There were 9291 total votes.
The poll ended: November 22nd 2008

Hmm, so scanlations won...I personally thought that more people would like to have a printed volume in their hands. (At least that's what I voted for.)

I choose scanlations. It is just a pain to go to the shop and buy it. Or wait on the mail.

It simply works faster and simpler to download with about the same quality.

It may be true, but you won't support the author that way and by the things look the economic crisis is really hitting hard on the anime/manga industry

I read scanlation but I buy the licensed version when it is released.

It's kind of disappointing to see that more people would rather have scanlations than a printed manga. Granted, scanlations are free and easy to access, but by downloading and not buying means not giving your favorite mangaka their due whatsoever.

Yeah really disappointing imagine all the mangaka work so hard to make wonderful manga and get no recognition knowledgeable to them because everyone gets the scan version and don't bother buying the really one. I do when ever I get pay XD

I don't know, guys. Personally, I voted scanlations because they come out a lot faster than the printed volume.

But I go and buy the ones I really like when they do come out. xD It's sort of a "reader's pride" thing, the same way it is with books. Reading it online <<< owning a copy. xDD

So, anyway, maybe many of the people who voted the same also buy manga sometimes. xD

I would definitly buy the printed volumes. There's just something about holding a book in my hands that beats staring at a pc monitor. Also I want to support the mangaka so they'll continue creating. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate scalations. I find that sometimes they're more faithful in the translation than the licensed companies who try to Americanize it too much. But when it's all said and done I still prefer owning the book.

Well at least printed volume got second place. I think it's better to have a book in your hand rather than read scanlations online cus if you want to read, you have to turn on your computer and stuff. A book is just more convenient & you'll be able to support the mangaka.

I really love to be able to hold the actual the books and carry them around and due to living in Portugal i rarely have access to them, and all these guys complain it's too troublesome to go to a shop.... So unfair *.*

For the completed poll: Doesn't surprise me, people will always choose easy over perceived difficulty.

New poll: Where's the 'Hell no and I think people who do are fools' option?

yeah, i personally thought that people would like to have printed volume in their hands.. I know it's a bit expensive (on second thought.. it's really expensive!), but nothing beats the feeling of holding a manga in your hands and read it whenever I am!

thread

» faerygoddyss on November 22nd, 2008, 10:57pm

I figured scanlations would win. They're free after all.

I picked printed volume. Nothing beats having your own physical copy to collect. That is only based on the assumption that the translations for the different choices are all of the same quality! Otherwise I would've picked scanlations.

I buy the printed volume, but I also like to have a scanlated version. I had a tough time deciding between the two, but I went ahead and picked printed volume since I have so many.

the feeling of holding the book and reading it before you fall asleep.... =) I have to admit that the english licensed version does not retain the originality like they replace the sound effect on the background and some editing is so horrible....

thread

» KennEH! on November 23rd, 2008, 6:54pm

I do but scanners do a better job in translation IMO.

I voted for scans too.... I would think it would be predictable.... I mean, I don't want to wait for slow American releases, and I also have to use my dictionary a few times if I try to read original Japanese prints (and I'm completely gone if it's Manhwa) so I'd rather read scans.... Plus when they eventually do release here I can put them away in protective wrapping for my collection so they don't get damaged.... I've never read most "physical" copies of manga/manhwa I own.... I'm completely satisfied with the scans....

I think I know why Scanlations won. They are free, and similar concept between sub and dub in anime. Most prefer the sub.

thread

» hasteroth on November 29th, 2008, 3:16pm

Though I voted for Scanlations I now change my opinion to "printed volume RAW Japanese" since I am now fluent in Japanese.
